Have Your Taste Buds Changed?

Recommended Posts

Hi... I'm 3 weeks postop and I'm finding that there are a whole host of foods that used to taste awesome that no longer taste good. The shakes, for one, used to taste like chocolate milk, but now they just taste sour. And yogurt tastes weird. I had to get my husband to taste it and tell me if it was off, because it tasted so sour to me...

Has this happened to anyone else?

I agree with you. I am also 3 weeks post op and some of my favorite things don't taste good anymore. I was craving a (COSCO) choc cookie so I nibble on a small piece...didn't taste good. I love chips (french fries in the US). I tried a couple and they no longer appeal to me either. Funny thing I can tolerate milk better now when before it would sour in my mouth. Today has been a hard day....feeling depressed so hitting the fridge when not hungry...my brother in law is dying of prostate cancer and only has a few days left and the stress of it has pulled me back into my unhappy eating habit. The only difference is I don't eat everything in sight anymore. I am able to eat though more now that I am healing. Tomorrow I start fresh and will not give in to this sadness.

Sal, I'm so sorry about your brother. I can't imagine what you must be going through.

I don't like doughnuts anymore. I can't stand the greasy taste. Which is good because they are terrible for you and hard to get down. And there's a Krispy Kreme factory 5 minutes from work. Two bites and I feel sick. Thank goodness.

I actually crave Protein now. Didn't do that before. Still have weakness for carbs that is my on-going struggle.

Sal - sorry for your situation and the grief you and family must be dealing with as this illness progresses. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. I am an emotional eater too. I lost only 12 pounds in 6 months due to my mothers struggle with cancer and work stress. Take care of yourself and don't beat yourself during this time of turmoil. There will be a time when you can focus on losing. Your band will be waiting for you when you are ready.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
