Members Being Banded In March 06

Recommended Posts

Hi Jababat- I was banded on March 20th and have my first post-op visit with the Doctor today too. I am excited! How long is everyone waiting before they start exercising? I feel like I'm up to starting slow but haven't yet, I guess because I'm scared I'll hurt something.

I am so excited...and nervous...I'm being banded March 14. Would love to see who else is being banded this month, where you are from, and who's doing your banding!

I was banded on 3/30/06 in New York by Dr. Alan Geiss. He's done over 1000 bandings with a great success record.

I was just banded March 27th...things were going pretty good until I tried a soy milk smoothie. Got terrible gas and had the dry heaves for a day...back to clear chicken broth and mylanta. My lap band doctor told me to get a steriod shot and nexium...problem...since I had surgery in Mexico I can't find a doctor state side that will see me. Anyone know an over the counter equivalent for nexium? Also, tried to walk around the block the other day and I thought I was going to die...stabbing pain in the middle of my chest...someone said that my band was hitting my diaphram anyone have this problem...did it go away? I have to be able to exercise.

Hi Fat Crusader- I was banded March 20th and had the same stabbing pains when I walked in the middle of my chest. It was OK if I sat down but soon as I got up to walk it would start in again. The good news is it has went away, I guess it took about 11 days. So hang in there!

Good luck to everyone.

i went back to the gym today for the first time since being banded (3/23). i had been taking small walks around the block but today decided to give it a go. my dh went also, this was his first time out to excercise since his thyroid surgery. i think it went pretty well. plan on going back tomorrow. i did make the mistake of lifting my grandson today. i felt a little pull and i sat down right away. just a force of habit i guess.

I was banded March 20th in Athens Greece by Doc. Gabril. I have done pretty well since then and am 22lbs down. I started taking gentle walks this week and hope to build up my time as I go along.

I was banded on march 31 in Mexico. I'm not hungry, but I have been experiencing a very loose stool. :) Anyone else had this problem? No more gas pain, and a little soreness I guess at where the port incision is. I went back to work on Tuesday,(desk job), without any problems. I'm so glad to hear everyone is doing well! I have cooked some of the best, healthiest dishes for my family this week, and resisted the urge to taste anything. Whew, that was hard, but surprisingly without the hunger not as hard as I thought it would be. Good luck everyone and keep up the good work! :clap2:

I started exercising Monday (I was one week out) with walking for 30 minutes three times a week!

Yup sounds exactly like what I had until I started on Mushies. You're not taking in much substance, so not much substance left to exit.

So those of us banded in early March, is everyone ready for their first fill??? I can't wait. My appetite is almost exactly what it was before surgery. Except for the fact that I cannot eat a toasted bagel. The stuck feeling is not a good one.

;) Kristin

Have lost 21 lbs in three weeks. Not too shabby!!

I had that stabbing pain in my left side for two days and was seriously scared I had ripped my port from my abdominal wall. Turned out it was my impending monthly cycle. I guess it will take a little time for all the organs to rearrange themselves in my shrinking stomach.

I go for a fill May 5. I have almost reached my mini goal. I'd pat myself on the back but I might strain my shoulder.....

Thanks Kristin. Glad to know that is normal. On my week two I'm doing thicker liquids, but I don't seem to have any problem unless I have apple juice. I was never a big juice fan in the past because of all the calories, maybe my system is just not use to it. I am looking forward to mushies. yeahhh bring on the mashed foods! lol.

Good luck to all of us Marchers.

Just thought I would check in with all you March banders. How's everyone doing?

I've had my first fill and it's like starting all over with learning the new eating habits. If I could just stop taking that last bite! All in all I'm still happy I did this.

No pb's yet...but I have the slime thing down...lol That's disgusting! And I've learned a valuable lesson...never, never, never eat cheese Peanut Butter crackers while driving in rush hour traffic...NOT GOOD!!!

Let me know how y'all are doing!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
