May bandsters - How much time (if any) did you take off work? I'm getting banded on 5/30, which is next Wednesday (yikes!), and I'm considering going back to work on the Monday after. I mainly sit at a desk - minimal walking.

I was banded on a Wednesday and was back to work on Monday. Receptionist here! LOL! Other than being bloated i'ts been easy.

I would take a week off if possible.

I took a week off but everyone is different. I was tired and the gas pains.

Ok I'm so glad it's not just me. I was starting to worry. Driving and sitting down to eat are pretty uncomfortable. :/ called the Dr last night so I'm just waiting to hear back.

I'd like to hear what he has to say when you hear from him.

Tomorrow is my day May 24th; I am scared and nervous just like most of you were. I keep taking deep breaths and tell myself it will be ok.. I have only told two people what I am doing and feel a little deceitful, not sure how to handle this.

Can you tell me if you have to strain the cream Soup before eating them? I also tried the Protein Drinks and gag so I hope I can eat something else.

Have tons of questions but do not want to take up to much of your time. I bet I could find the answers if I look around the web site.

Thanks and good luck to all the May banders.

  1. You aren't taking up our time. That's why we are all here to help and learn and find support! The deceit part you will have to figure out on your own. I told work and most people I had a hernia and had to have surgery for that. It was a 1/2 lie... But, people didn't ask to much and it made things easier than saying I can't loose weight on my own and need a tool. I work in sales with all these very active fit men and they would give me too much advice and really we all know it is a tad bit easier for a man to loose than it is for a woman to loose. I wasn't allowed soup prior to surgery only after on day seven which isn't till this Friday for me. I am going to just pour a low-fat soup into my blender and puree it to liquid. really looking forward to the mushies. As for the Protein Shakes it is super important for you to get Protein into your body. Even later on. It will help you loose weight and keep you full later. Have you tried a lot of brands of shakes? I would suggest a trip to Walmart or target for a few brands like EAS, Premier Protein and Atkins (I know their are many others) and try them as you go..The first two days I had zero appetite and really had to force it down. Don't forget drop ins like Crystal light (many other sugar free brands out there too). Variety was the key for me. The best advice I got was take a pillow with you for the car ride home on day of surgery to put between you and the seat belt. It helped a lot. I wore a cotton pull over sun dress that was bunched under my boobs so nothing touched my stomach. Ask away I am home till Monday and resting and I am getting sort of board so I would be happy to answer any questions! Best Wishes for a stress free fast surgery... You are on the road to your new lean body and healthy life!

I hear people doing it in just a day or two... guess I am just old (44) but I didn't really feel normal till yesterday which was day 4 for me. (my surgery was 5/18 Friday). I took all this week and got the weekends and a bonus of Monday due to Memorial Day. I think by then I will be back to almost 100% so I say take the week plus the weekend if you can.

Congrats and welcome! The process happens so quick before u know it you will be banded! Good luck and try to check in when you get a chance. BTW, I only told 2 people also. My husband who was my ride and my mom so she could make sure my kids got to school on time. I don't feel no one else needs to know- afterall they didn't help me get this way and neither did they motivate me to eat healthier!

I do hear people straining the soup but the day before surgery I was on Clear Liquids then clear for the day off and next day. For days 3-13 I'm on full liquids. It's been tough getting all the liquid in but I'm getting in enough to stay hydrated. I bought the Lipton cream of chicken soup and I have the Unjury chicken soup with my Premier Protein shakes.< /p>

Thanks for answering my questions. I have tried two different Protein drinks and can’t do it, but I will try other ones before I give up on that. My surgeon told me to start losing weight but did not put me on a restricted diet before surgery. I have on my own (the last four days) put myself on a liquid diet. I thought it would be easier on my system if I got started early. I have a concern with IBS. I am hoping that this surgery helps me with that as well as losing weight. (My doc says it won’t but I am still hoping)

My doctor was very good and went over a lot of things but I did not know what to ask until I starting reading this forum.

Hope these questions are not too silly

Will the connection for refills stick out?

Do they have to cut you again when they refill?

How soon is a refill?

How long after surgery can you have sex?

I did not know that I would be restricted on driving. How long?

Well this is for a start I am sure I will have many more after tomorrow. Hope you are feeling good and thanks again.

I'd like to hear what he has to say when you hear from him.

Ok the nurse called back. She said it is normal because they mess around w/ a lot of muscle during surgery and things tighten up. She suggested ice packs to bring the inflammation down.

Ok so I will answer what I can and then maybe another may bandster will help too.

As far as I am not sure if the port will stick out. I guess it will depend on how much weight u lose and the band type.

Although I have not had any fills yet/ I know they don't cut you to do fills.

Not sure when you get the 1st fill, from reading the forum everyone is different.

The restriction is because of the medication you will be taking for pain

And not sure if there is a certain time to be sexually active. I guess it would depend on you and or healing.

Hope I helped. Maybe another bandster will help as I'm recently banded on may 18.

Good Luck

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
