Need some advice...Colonics

Recommended Posts

i know. the thought of pooing in front of someone does nothing for me either  , but a friend suggested i look into it because i am so constipated.

i used to be a pretty "regular" girl. since the surgery, things have slowed up a bit. i actually feel bloated and puffy in my tummy area. i am eating a lot less food than i used to, but i should still be going every day...i am not. a colonic is also suppossed to act as a detox for the body and get everything running smoothly......

so, has anyone ever tried a colonic and did it cure what ailed you? :sick

I did not do the colonics but instead I went with a Body Cleanse - I do not have the name off the top of my head but It comes in pill format and I took 2 a day and by the third day I finally got everything cleaned up. I got the stuff at my local Vitamin store.. Worked like a charm and all natural

i too suffer from Constipation.< /p>

i dont take anything to relive it i just to try to eat as much Fiber as humanly possable. my body is starting to get back to 'once a day'

the problem with taking something or doing something is that your body is being forced to 'move' the waste. in the next few weeks your body will back up again and you will still want to do or take something to allievate the bloating and backed up poo. its like a big cycle

have you talked to your dr? what about drinking benifiber everyday? i dont know its a tuff and painful thing! i have never thought about BM's so much in my life!!! i hope one day i dont have to worry about "did i go yesterday?"

please be careful to not let yourself ever get TOO backed up. that is VERY serious. i would put a dot on a calender every day that you have a BM so that you can make sure you dont go a few days without one on accident.

good luck

Maggie, when you have a colonoscopy, the doctor makes you do a VERY thorough cleansing the day before. You can use about half the dosage of the same method for Constipation. Walgreen's sells a little bottle of Phospho-Soda, made by Fleet's, for about $5. If you can swallow about 1/4 to 1/2 the bottle (only about 5 teaspoons), all your problems will disappear. But don't plan on leaving the house for the rest of the day. Oh, and it tastes like crap times a million - it's pure salt (600 mg of salt per teaspoon!!!). I would definitely try an at-home remedy before I tried to poo in front of some colonic administering hippie :)

Glad to help! Here are a few more tips regarding the Fleet's Phospho-Soda:

1. Try to mix it with cold Sprite since it tastes so bad

2. Do not leave the house! You won't have any pain or cramping, but once you realize it's time again, IT'S TIME! Expect it to start working in about an hour, and the effects will last about six hours.

3. I got an awful headache from it, but 4 advil took care of it.

4. Drink TONS of Water during the process. The first two or so times you go will be close to solid, but everything after that is pure liquid. You will dehydrate in a hurry.

Good luck!

Ask your surgeon about HMF Replete. I took this last year after my chiropractor recommended it. Here's a link and you can do your own research: http://www.rockwellnutrition.net/product.asp?itemid=242. My husband's surgeon approved it for him after he had colon surgery and said it would be very good for him to take it. It is kind of expensive, but it offers the human strain of the "good bacteria" similar to what is found in yogurt in the dairy form.

I'm glad you brought this up b/c I will add this to my list of questions for my surgeon as I am preband.

Best of luck whatever you decide to do. I hope you get relief very soon.

google the word drnatura.com. I swear it will change your life just looking at the picture gallery on the site. I was so fascinated I bought the 30 day program and could not believe what came out of me. Aliens! I only swear by two products in this world....Proactiv and DrNatura colon cleasne. Best of luck.

I am going to do it again. Thanks for the reminder.

ok...so that was the grossest thing I have EVER seen! Do we know for certain that this product isn't conglomerating into what he's passing? I've administered many a bowel cleansing and have viewed the clean inner bowels of many, many patients. NONE have ever passed anything remotely like that. Call me skeptical, but 'I ain't buyin' it'.

Methods we use at our major university hospital are: the fleets enema, soap suds enema, Miralax prep, nu-lytely, mag-citrate, or phospho-soda for bowel cleansing. To assist a sluggish bowel, or ease Constipation we use: prune juice, warm apple juice, Fiber mixes, prunes, dates, colace, senna, milk of magnesia, or dulcolax suppositories. We offer variety because some patients, or their doc, have a preference and want what they've used successfully in the past.

i was told that you could not do a pill form of body cleanse with the band due to the inflation of certain fibers in the pills and that it might stretch out the pouch, and that you can not get enough Water quick enough to keep you from choking. Just telling you what the nurse at the local bariatric clinic told me. I just did a body cleanse kit (pre band) and it did nothing. I feel ripped off honestly. but I also want to do a fast and a body cleanse. jack...sending you a pm on that info. lol sounds like something i need to do. body cleansing is such a smart thing to do on a regular basis. most of us eat junk, even when we are trying to eat right. there are so many toxic things we put into our bodies. and a buildup of those things can actually slow or even stall weight loss. it is so important to do a liver and colon cleansing at least once a year.

When I was still banded I used "Colon Cleanse" that work fabulously with no problem to my band or my surgeon. You can feel the pill pass through to the bottom before taking the other half. I never had problems with things sticking in my pouch though, so I felt pills go through to the bottom.

Any health store carries it (or similar products.) They're a little hard to take since they're big pills, but you break them in half. Start by taking one with Water. Next day take 2. Next day take 3. Once you poop like a horse (they worked overnight form me) you back off by taking 2, then 1, then none.

Now I do it about once a month. Nothing feels better than pooping like a horse.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
