Banded Wed. And Starving????

Hello,

I was banded on Wednesday. I am feeling pretty good and so far no complications. I am following the liquid diet and now getting in some Protein Shakes. My doctor said to only drink 4 oz. at a time. I feel like I could drink the whole bottle as well as drink a whole bottle of Water. I do not feel any discomfort. i am assuming that my band is empty and I am able to do this now.

Is this normal to feel like I could chug a bottle of propel?

Not u usual at all. I was able to chug Water right after surgery and continued thst until about 5 months after surgery when I hit the green zone! I no longer chug anything! lol

I drank 3 shakes a day and they were atleast 12 ounces each.

I am only 3 weeks banded and do not have any restriction issues with liquids... can easily drink the 11oz packaged Protein Shakes. I only had trouble the first few days due to the gas from surgery, and now I actually feel much better if I have several 8-12oz drinks (all sugar free or Protein shakes that are low carb) per day in addition to one small meal. It's great that you want to drink Water, to stay hydrated, and it also helps you feel less hungry. I also like sugar free popcicles and Jello to feel like I've had something and shouldn't be hungry.

Asisde from having surgery, nothing has changed that will alter your eating habits - hunger. It takes a series of adjustments - fills to get the band working properly.

As far as post-op. I drank as much as I could with whatever I was allowed!

I did not care about calories...aqnd certainly should not be concerned with loosing weight right now either.

It's allmabout healing and getting well so they can move on to the good stuff.

He probably said only 4oz at a time because that's what your pouch will hold, and as you said you have no restriction. He doesn't want you to stretch your pouch. From reading your post, I think it's not that he's limiting your liquid intake but just what you could "chug" at a time. So maybe measure out 4oz so you can see how much that is, and when you drink it, wait a bit before drinkning more.

I was starving hungry the day after my band surgery. I was allowed to drink 1 ounce of liquid every 15 minutes but I felt like I could chug a galloon without any problem. But....don't do that! The reason is that in the immediate post-op period, your stomach is still healing and your band is still nesting itself into your stomach. Drinking too fast/too much, not following your surgeon's eating instructions (liquids-purees-soft-solid) and vomiting (which can happen if you chug liquids and/or eat something you're not supposed to eat) can all interfere with the healing process and even cause your band to slip out of position.

I was banded on Monday 2/6/12 and I have been STARVING!! For some reason I feel like I'm more hungry AFTER the surgery then before when I was on the 2 week liquid diet with my normal stomach! I don't get it. I do seem to get filled faster, but then it's like I'm starving only 2-3 hours later. I'm guessing that, yes, we get that "full feeling" quicker, but we need to eat/drink more frequently because our stomach is now so small? I have no idea. I can't wait for my follow up appointment so I can get these questions answered - because I have NO IDEA what's going on down there!!!

I was banded on 1/31 and went through several days where I felt hungrier than I had ever been before; it wasn't head hunger because my stomach was loud and rumbly! It seems to have leveled out for me now. Hang in there!

I was banded on the 8th and not really hungry. I sip on the Protein Shakes pretty slowly. In the morning I make a big one with Protein Powder, scoop of Greek yogurt, skim milk, banana, and fish oil (you can't taste it). It has 36 g of Protein in it and I sip on it all morning. For lunch I have creamed Soup, and later for dinner a low carb slimfast chocolate shake. I have sugar free drinks, Jello, and popsicles for in between, so I haven't experienced any real hunger pains yet. I am sure that eventually this is going to get really, really old. Just glad my dr. is only making me do the liquids for 2 weeks, then on to mushy foods.

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

        I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.
