The liver is one of the first places to either gain or lose weight, so just keep doing what you're doing. I didn't have a preop diet, just Clear Liquids the day before...my surgery went great. Good luck!

Just follow your doctors instruction and you'll be fine! Especially the couple days right before, some people are instructed to just do clear liquids/fast for that short amount of time and do great come surgery. Pre op diets vary a ton by doctor!

getting your liver ready is all about removing the stored sugars in the liver that hold onto Water and keep your liver fatty... as long as you follow the rules and stay away from high carb foods, your liver will be fine!

I ate chicken nuggets the night before my surgery at 10pm and the doctor said my liver was fine...just don't over do it...I'm doing fine, just had my lapband put in on the 8th.

I had KFC chicken drumstick and mashed potatoes but I had lost 26 lbs before hand, dr never said a word.

What was the specific issue your friend had? I'm willing to bet it was a more rare complication.

No worries...even when I was thin I had a fatty liver - but the doc had no problems

Follow your doctor's advice and you should be fine! It's dangerous to compare yourself to others in this situation because everyone is different and has different results. I was on a low fat diet the week previous to my surgery (that's all my doctor recommended) and mine went great (and believe me, I know I was on a high fat diet before deciding to get this surgery!).

Christy I wouldn't worry too much about it. I just had my appointment with the surgeon and he said I only have to do a liquid diet the day before the surgery. I asked him why other doctors have their patients do a liquid diet 2 weeks pre-op and he said it's unnecessary. The chances of your liver being too large are extremely slim. Good luck to you.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
