Hi ALL,

I am supposed to be banded on Friday, but this morning I got the can! Yup! Terminated just days before the procedure!!! I want to go through with the surgery since I have made it all the way up to now. My insurance will only cover me until 3/31 and then I have to apply for medi-cal until I can get real insurance for my kids and myself again. I am struggling with the decision. I WANT THIS!!! I want it so bad I can taste it, and it's right within my reach. Would I be selfish to continue as planned, or should I wait to get different insurance and run the gauntlet again? Asking opinions from ALL please.

No Negative Nelly's need respond.

Thanks for advice in advance.

firstly, I am so sorry about your job loss, what a bummer :(

I would definitely continue as planned, what is the likelihood that you will find a job that covers bariatrics in the near future? you've got a hard decision, but I would not take the chance of being unable to get the procedure, what if the chance does not rise again?

please tell us of your decision, I will be thinking of you.

I would follow through with it, you have come this far. Good luck in whatever you decide.

...sorry, i didnt understand what happened to you. in Australia its got nothing to do with our job. we have private cover if we pay for it regardless of whether we are working or not. Im just so sorry for you. what rotten luck ... what rotten timing it was. i hope that you can work it out. i know its very important for you. thinking of you.

you will more that likely have time to read then :-) when I got home yesterday, I napped every couple hours but did my usual routine in between. Now I've got my alarm set for every 4 hrs for pain meds, so I stop in here every time I am awake. I had never had a real surgery before yesterday, only wisdom teeth removal, so I am surprised that the pain is not too severe, just a general soreness in my incision areas. Definitely worse than the aftermath of a hard ab workout, but still very manageable with the meds and conscious movement.

thats great news. im so glad that your first experience at general surgery went so well. i hope that you continue to improve quickly.. what pain meds are you taking?? is it liquid? ?

I was prescribed oxycodone 5mg tablets, 1 to 2 as needed every four hours. They don't taste very good, but easily swallowed. I was given a liquid version while in recovery yesterday because I had started to walk around and the port pain was unpleasant. DEFINITELY prefer the tablet to the liquid, it tasted horrible!

ive had oxycodone in the past. i hope if they give it to me this time that i tolerate it a lot better than before. it made me vomit everytime. it will be interesting to see what they give me.

thanks... appreciate this. ive had some pressure from my youngest daughter. you may not remember but i never divulged to any of my family what i was having done. apart from hubby. well... my youngest daughter has been insisting that she come in to see me in hospital soon after surgery. i just had to send her a firm text telling her to humour me and leave me be. i dont want her finding out what the true reason for surgery is. its hard, but i felt i had to just say, please stay away!! what would you do??

But, i think im feeling a little more settled now... which is great. i want to have a good nights sleep. im not being banded until 3.30 tomorrow afternoon (thursday our time ) and i can have Breakfast before 7am... so up early to have some brekky...and 2 cups of coffee... lol.

im not taking much in my bag. just a nightie, dressing gown, toiletries and a book. not that i will get much chance to read. lol.

Anyway, this is me.... so cheerio for now... when you hear from me again i will be officially'' banded'' ..... way to go. The new door opens.[/quote']

Good luck today...not that you need it...those dr.s and nurses are awesome no matter where in the country you are.

I'm sorry I'm just gonna but in here if that's okay..lol.. I have 4 children and have told all of them about me having my surgery and all but one my 10 year old daughter did not like the idea. She said if I want to lose weight the just do it by diet and exercise well I had to explain to her how many times I

had been through diets over and over, also she has seen me very sick these 2 past years with other medical issues so I told her its because I wanna be there for you when its time to say yes to the dress. I want to see my grandchildren I want to be around to see my family grow and this surgery will benefit not only me but our entire family and finally she understood. I don't want my kids to see this as a easy way out because it not it is a lot of work that we have to put into it. Our entire life changes.

Why do you not want her to know about the surgery?

No guilt neded in this decision... You've paid the premium for the month, have the surgery. Think of it as a bit of a vacation to heal. You've come so far to not finish!

So I am done day 3 post op and I just finished logging what I have eaten in my fitness pal. Ack! 25 calories, 250 and then 349 today! I am starving myself!!!! I was trying to go with no Protein Shake but I will have to. Are you guys just mixing it with Water or skim milk? Should I aim for 8oz?

I can only drink the premixed ones, I think the ones you mix yourself tasks awful. The most I have had calorie wise since being banded on 3/15 was 600 calories so don't feel bad. I can't even imagine eating more than that, the mere thought makes me want to lose it.

The thickest I have eaten (last night) were grits and that seemed to stick with me. I made sure that they were made kind of soupy and I didn't have any digestion problems :-)

Thanks Neekoal. I don't mind my powder with 1:4 cup of skim milk and Water. I am starting to try to sip them throughout the day starting now

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
