Alternatives To Protein Shakes

Hello all!

This is my first post! I'm excited for my upcoming surgery on February 1st, but I am having a lot of difficulties with the Protein shakes. I purchased several sample packs from different companies in different flavors and I just can't get them down! My husband and I are doing the surgery together and he says it's just all in my head...which is probably right! laugh.png Nevertheless, I can't get past the horrible smell and the gritty taste. Then when I do get some down it just feels like it's sitting in my stomach funny and I'm going to puke. I'm allowed solids on my pre-op diet so I've just been substituting with lots of tuna, but I'm not quite sure what to do post-surgery.

Any ideas?

  • I have been drinking the Premier ones from Costco as well.. No chalky, medicine taste. In fact they taste like a yummy chocolate shake!

My surgeon said NO protein shakes. After my pre-op diet, I did clears, then full liquid, then solids. He does not want me having liquid calories, period. So check with your surgeon, you might be stressing over shakes for nothing.

I bought tons of the stuff getting ready for surgery based on what I had read here only to be told I'd not be using them. I ended up throwing them out. Now I have a shake once in a while if I am bored with my diet. I use one called Isagenix, you can order online. But it really comes down to individual taste.

I use a bullet style blender and it works great getting the grit out. You have to add a little ice, for some reason it helps it mix up better. Good luck to you.

Have you tried Slim Fast LoCarb drinks?
