Before The First Fill

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery about 3 weeks ago and I'm going in for my first fill on Thursday. I find now I am able to eat more and I have become hungry more often than right after surgery or a week out from it. This concerns me. After the first fill did anyones appetite decrease? Was it a major change?

Banded 11/28/11, first fill 01/05/12. Virtually no restriction yet. No change, I can eat what I want(but I'm not). Already scheduled my next fill on 2/2/12. Just a continuation of "Bandster Hell" so far.

Agreed! I was banded on 11/18 had my first fill on 12/19... 3ccs in a 10cc band,,, I also can still eat pretty much anything but I'm counting calories to help... I'm getting my second fill Tuesday hopefully I'll have more restriction!! And yes it's normal for your appetite to increase before your first fill

I was banded on August 12, 2011. My first fill wasnt for 6 weeks. My doctor stated that it take 6 weeks to heal and he absolutely does no do a fill prior to the 6 week mark. I recieved the small band during surgery. My starting weight was 316, and I had dropped 20 pounds during that six weeks with no fill so I was already getting some restriction from my band. My first fill was done on 9-23. I have been losing weight this whole time but just recently got in to my "green" zone and have been able to completly skip my last 2 appointments. I now weigh 258. 58 pounds down in 5 months. You will get there, it just takes time. Talk with your doctor, make sure you communicate. Make sure your not drinking Fluid an hour before you eat or 30 minutes after because it will move food through your stoma faster. Also make sure you are eating WHOLE solid Proteins and staying away from soft foods like mashed potatoes, Jello, pudding, things like that. meat MEAT MEAT!!! Hamburgers, hot dogs, steaks, chicken, turkey.. Also, junk food breaks down a lot faster, crackers and pretzels, chips and Cookies are all considered slider foods and can pass through quickly, or if your in your green zone, these items can also get stuck. I concentrate mainly on meat and cheese because those are the best available for Protein and then maybe a few bites of veggies if i have room but I ALWAYS finish my solid meats first. and I really dont want my hair to fall out because of Vitamin deficiency so I also take my daily Vitamins. Good luck with your journey and remember, this is the tool that you needed to make it work and you WILL get there, maybe not your next fill, or even the next, but you will start to feel restriction.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
