Why am I having so much trouble? I wish I was down 33 pounds! I was banded Feb 23' date=' and go for my first fill on Friday (4/6). I lost 12 pounds prior to my first post op appointment, and to date have not lost another ounce. I am being very vigilant to the diet, drinking Water, getting my Protein, and even joined Curves, but it just won't come off. Some say that this is "bandster hell" and I hope they're right and it will start coming off after my first fill, because I am getting very frustrated![/quote']

I am in the same situation, I was banded on Feb 18th, had my first fill on March 23rd and the scale had not moved for about 2 weeks. I've lost 25 lbs in the first three weeks but I'm stuck and I do excercise for at least 30 min everyday and watch what I eat. No sugar or bread. I am beginning to get discouraged. Idk what else to do, I feel little to no restriction after my first fill.

Hey guys...sorry its been so long..I have loved reading all the posts...its been crazy around here between my surgery, my dads emergency gall bladder surgery, my daughters emergency appendectomy and im going too school full time....so I was banded on the 17th of february, had my first fill on march 16th , I think that was the date, it was 2ccs, I get my second fill next wednesday..they have too do mine under flouroscopy because my port settled deep into my ab wall which is fine with me because I prefer it that way...I had the band with plication so I ve been very lucky that I hardly get hungry and the weight has been coming off pretty steadily....so far since I started this adventure I have lost 47 pds.... Its funny going to the closet and having nothing too wear because so much doesnt fit anymore.....good luck too us all...this was a huge decision for us all and after fighting for months with the insurance com I finally just self payed...I dont regret it at all.....I feel so much better than I did a few months ago and am even off one of my bp meds..hopefully I will be off the other one soon...

In reply to my earlier post about food getting stuck. I had surgery on 2/16 and had my first fill on 3/19 of 4cc's. I have thought since my fill that I didn't have any restriction but that stuck episode proved me wrong. I have never experienced anything like that. It felt like when you eat ice cream to fast and you get the freeze in your shoulder blade but 10 times worse and I got really sick. You can bet your money that I am chewing chewing chewing and taking small bites now. Thanks for all the concerns and words of encouragement. Happy Easter everyone!!!

goodness me... it has been hectic for you there. I hope everyone in your family have recovered now. i reckon you havent had time to even think about your banding.. Great news that your weight loss is steady. it sounds like its incorporated into your busy lifestyle now without any hassles. thats good. wonderful that you are off one of your b/p meds as well. you are right, its worth the expense to get your health back.

Well, I went for my first fill yesterday and got told everything I was doing wrong, I left there just about in tears! But today I'm starting anew, hoping to get it all right. My PA and I decided that with Easter on Sunday, getting filled Friday wasn't a good idea, since my family doesn't know I've had surgery and I'm required by my doc to go on 2 days of liquid, two days of soft, then regular. So I'm going bright and early Monday morning, and she said she expects to see the scale say the same or less than yesterday, so no splurge on Easter for me. I'm hoping with making sure I get my Water in and eating more Protein and less carbs I'll turn this whole thing around. I'm down about 20 pounds since surgery, so that's not awful, it's just that I lost 18 pounds in month 1 and 2 pounds in month 2. So I'm hoping for the best.

On another topic, I was in my storage area yesterday, and felt a sharp pain below my right breast, but above where my incision line is. I said to my daughter, wow, I just got a sharp pain right there (and indicated where), and there's a big lump there. Sad to admit I don't even know where my port is, so I'm wondering, is this my port, or did I do something? I'm really thinking maybe it's the port, even though I thought my port was right under my incision line around my waist. At least I'll know for sure on Monday! Any ideas?

that pain you are feeling could very well be your port attaching to the muscle. I had similar pain when i turned to quickly to the right. my port is 2cm under my incision line however when I went for my 1st fill they felt above the incision line first. Good Luck!

Went for my first fill today, yes, the lump was the port, and it went so easily! Hopefully things will start to calm down a little. Even with eating Easter dinner I lost two pounds since Friday, so I am thinking maybe the scale is finally going to start to move downward! Feeling sooo much better! Thanks for all the replies and support. Talk to you all soon.

It's important for the success of your weight loss journey to not "beat your self up" or express shame when you have a lapse in sound decisions in your diet. What you need to do is refocus your thinking; keep a food journal, make planning your meals simple, and stay with the basics.

A few simple rules to help: focus on getting your Protein first. Stay away from processed food as much as possible. When I get hungry, that is my cue to begin to drink the fluids I need every day. Don't obsess with the scale every day. Exercise at least 5 days a week for 30 minutes.

Re-center your thinking to keep prominent for you the reasons you began this journey...

I hope that this helps...remember, we are human, not perfect. I "misbehaved" on Easter with a small piece of cake, but the next day I was back into my routine.

Good luck!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
