Recommended Posts

Hi Jr Guru, I am done, and just came home a little while ago. Tired but did fine. It's not bad at all. No complaints yet. Came home to have a Protein Drink and lots of Water and now for a nap. Funny, I took my cell with me and checked my email while waiting for the surgery and what was on there, promo from Lane Bryant for their February sales!!! LOLOL Timing is everything!

Good luck on Monday and I'll check in on you during the week.

I was banded yesterday teeth_smile.gif I barely had any pain yesterday but today seems to be a different story. Just really bruised by my port incision. But so glad it is over and done with! I have never had any kind of surgery so I was really nervous!

Thank you all for your support. Glad to have people in the same situation, going through the same thing basically at the same time.

Jr. Guru, you will do fine. It's natural to have all those emotions going on. It wasn't bad although I'm glad I'm home now.

My major problem if you want to call it that, which basically got me into this mess, haha, is learning to take sips insteads instead of gulps, taking baby bites instead of using the Soup spoon to down everything!! If that's all it is, I guess I can live with it! And always keeping a great sense of humor. And knowing the future will be brighter and lighter on our journey into feeling more healthy and thinner. You're in my thoughts and prayers for tomorrow.

I was banded on 1/26. I'm doin great, had not much pain, no pain meds yesterday or today. All liquids, getting tired of chicken broth for sure. I am going back to work tomorrow, sedentary desk job and I do feel up to it. Just trying to get some calories in.

One thing, and maybe tmi, but I have an iud, and this surgery seems to have triggered my ttotm. It's usually nonexistent, but its rather annoying. More to mess with.

I'm looking foreward to cream of chicken soup!

I'm glad to have people to travel this journey with.

Start weight 284

Surgery day 275.5

First goal 250

Hello January Bandster!! So I was banded 1/4 it has been almost 4 weeks! I went back to work after 2 weeks off. It was hard to get caught up at work and keep on my eating schedule, especially since you have to spend a lot of time chewing!! At 3 weeks I started back on my Elliptical, but just paced myself slower than typical and it felt good. I also realized that I was not sure I was doing all of the toning stuff right and gave in an hired a personal trainer, he is a physical therapist and is able to work around all of my former injuries and ailments!! So I am on the Elliptical 3-4 days a week and I do my toning at home 3 days a week and 2 days with the trainer (he totally kicked my butt yesterday!!). As for the pureed food, I did that for about a week and was suppose to do it for 2 weeks, but it took so much time to prepare, so I just cut stuff up small and chewed a lot, so far so good!! My diet is a cup of Decaf with chocolate Protein mixed in for B-fast (my version of a cafe mocha), yogurt at 9:30, some type of protein (meatballs, tuna, chicken breast) and veggies (frozen then microwaved) at noon, around 2 I have a V-8 fusion, 4pm ready to drink GNC lean shake, then dinner around 7pm meat and veggies. And Water in between it all!!! So far I feel a little hungry before I go to bed at night around 10pm. I go in for my 1st fill 2/2.

I still have some of that left over gas pain in one area under my right rib cage, but at least it is not in my shoulder anymore. It only hurts when I first get up or sneeze (weird!)

Well I feel good! I have always suffered from depression and now I feel on top of the world!!! The scale does not help so I stopped getting on it. I will probably get on it once a month. But I can see the difference in my face and my bras are too loose and I am constantly pulling up my pants!! So that makes me feel good!! I plan to buy a few belts today. I am hoping skip buying a few sizes in between by using belts.

I hope all of you well and look forward to hearing about your progress!! It is odd being one of the 1st of the year, so I look forward to your stories!!! Good luck to you all! Ditch the scale, just FEEL the weight loss!!

Hello Nicole1, Sound like you are doing great. I am just coming out my liquid post op diet. Tomorrow makes 2 weeks POST! I was banded on the 17th, I see the nutritionist @ 4pm tomorrow to start my next phase of what I should be eating. I never looked so forward to soft/pureed foods in my life lol. I got on the scale yesterday then I went to the YMCA to walk the indoor track and got on the scale again just to verify mine is correct (I had it in the closet for MONTHS) it was still pretty accurate I've come down about 14 pounds since starting the pre-op diet. Today I feel great I've been getting my walking in (about a mile each walk) today I think I'll just speed it up just a tiny notch. I don't want to burn too many calories since I'm still on liquids. I was thinking of getting a trainer once I'm fully cleared by the doc to lift weights.

Hi girls- I'm doing pretty well- but question- I was banded last Thursday, 1/26. I was supposed to be on Clear liquids until tomorrow, after I see my Dr. However- last night and this morning I had a watered down Protein shake, I just couldn't stomach more broth- really, I thought I was going to be sick. Do you think this will mess me up? I noticed that a lot of people only have a couple days of Clear Liquids, or can even do Protein shakes right away.

What are your thoughts?

I know everyone's program is different. I had to do 2 weeks of clear/full liquids to allow my stomach to fully heal before dealing with solid food. The goal was to get up to 32oz clear and 32oz Full liquids per day including shakes. I've been able to tolerate about 8oz Protein drink from day 3 post-op I do 2 or 3 slimfast shake 20g Protein, 4g Carbs, 2g sugar per day. I drink broth once a day, cream of something (chicken, mushroom, etc) and yogurt, Jello, Water as fillers throughout the day. My nutritionist will alter my diet tomorrow for soft foods. I don't think drinking a watered down shake will mess you up at all. I had to start drinking 2oz of a Protein Shake every 4 hours the next day in the hospital.

Good luck.

Thanks, I really think I am off chicken broth for awhile, LOL. It is funny how different every doctor's advice is!

Day four PO for me and I was able to sleep on my side without much discomfort last night which helped alot. Although I was up tossing and turning to get comfy, for some reason, when I did sleep, I selpt well because I woke up energized this morning. Perhaps it's because I didn't eat any junk food before I went to bed like I always did, sugar, salt, whatever was around, I ate it. Plus I have lost 10lbs since the start of my pre-op liquid diet. Baby steps...Of course, still swollen and sore around my middle but that's to be expected. I'm so glad it's all behind me now, and speaking of BEHIND, I can't wait for that to diminish in time, but being that's the largest part on me, it will be the last to go. Oh well, it's a start and I'm thrilled.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
