Hi girls- I'm doing pretty well- but question- I was banded last Thursday, 1/26. I was supposed to be on Clear liquids until tomorrow, after I see my Dr. However- last night and this morning I had a watered down Protein shake, I just couldn't stomach more broth- really, I thought I was going to be sick. Do you think this will mess me up? I noticed that a lot of people only have a couple days of Clear Liquids, or can even do Protein shakes right away.

What are your thoughts?

I was supposed to be on clears WITH Protein Shakes 1 week so I think if you take it slow, but of course I'm not your surgeon. Make sure if you do cream of chicken you take OUT the chicken and REALLY only do 1/4c-1/2c.

I was banded on 1/26. I'm doin great, had not much pain, no pain meds yesterday or today. All liquids, getting tired of chicken broth for sure. I am going back to work tomorrow, sedentary desk job and I do feel up to it. Just trying to get some calories in.

One thing, and maybe tmi, but I have an iud, and this surgery seems to have triggered my ttotm. It's usually nonexistent, but its rather annoying. More to mess with.

I'm looking foreward to cream of chicken soup!

I'm glad to have people to travel this journey with.

Start weight 284

Surgery day 275.5

First goal 250

I am so with you on the chicken broth!!!! I can't wait until tomorrow, I get to eat applesauce!!!!!! and oatmeal!!!! woot woot!

Hey everyone! Just checking in....surgery went well, recovering now in my private room. Pain is a 1-2 while laying and I'd really be great if I didn't have to keep peeing from the iv fluids!!

Hey, Jr Guru, glad to see you on here. I've been thinking of you all day. I had a private room too which was real nice. The peeing is a pain since you have to buzz the nurses to unhook you to go to the bathroom but it's all worth it. I was just very thirsty being I was having the barium swallow the next day and couldn't drink anything. The nurse let me take a mouthful of Water, swill it around and gargle and spit it out. That helped. Each time I went to the bathroom, I did that. You'll be home in no time and start the journey with the rest of J-bandsters. Try to get a good night's sleep, or cat naps.

Thanks Meredith! You can call me Elizabeth, by the way! I have mouth swans at my bedside, which is great. Getting up is a pain! Thank you for your thoughts, so kind to keep me on your mind today!

Hi fellow bandsters, I've been off here for a few days because I was sooooo sick. Ugh. It's amazing how some people have no problems and others have a bunch. Well, I got the bad luck I guess. Thanks to my nurse at my doctors office, I feel human again. I was banded on 1/20 and posted on here last week a few times how sick I was and hated the Liquid Protein drinks. Yuck. Started on the Protein Shakes and did a lot better, but still sick. Last Thursday, I felt like the exorcist was possessing my body. It was horrible. I was in the bathroom from 6 pm to almost 2:30 am. Got 4 hrs. of sleep. Called dr. Friday and they let me go ahead and start eating Activia yogurt and mixing it with the Protein Shake. You have to have the high Protein but it was stripping me of everything. I needed to get the good bacteria back in my digestive system. Started feeling a bit better Friday night but still pretty bad. I started adding a probiotic with the yogurt to help (per my dr.) and now I have energy and feel better. My first post op appt. is Thursday. They let me eat cream Soups and 1 bite of a soft scrambled egg (it was the best tasting thing I had in a long time lol) and everything I eat is staying put. Friday I get to start pureed foods. I think I finally turned the corner of this going on the right track now. I don't regret my surgery decision but last week there were a few days where I questioned myself. I hung in there! It will be interesting to see on Thursday how much I've lost so far.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
