So I was wanting to get an early start on trying out Protein shakes so I know which ones I can tolerate when it comes time for my pre-op diet and also so I can start adding them into my diet as Meal Replacements. That way, when the time comes I'll be use to them and it won't be such a shock, considering I've heard all the horror stories of how hard it was!

So, just wondering what shakes y'all enjoy the most/have the best nutritional value and where y'all get them from.

Thanks!

The only one I like is EAS AdvantEdge Carb Control - chocolate Fudge. I have found them at Target and Walmart. I like the RTD better than powder.< /p>

Personally, the only shake I've been able to drink is the Special K shakes, vanilla and strawberry. It is almost like drinking a milkshake which I didn't find with the other kinds I tried. Too thin and it was like drinking melted ice cream, no matter how cold it was. Then there are others that taste like chalk. These came straight from the doctors office. The Special K shakes were comparable to what my doctor wanted me to drink nutrition wise, at least pre-op. Post op, they'd like me to be drinking something with a bit more Protein. I haven't found a shake that compares in taste, so if you do, please share.

I'm a fan of Muscle Milk Light. Their chocolate and cake batter flavors are delicious and filling.

My fav was Muscle Milk lite in the latte flavor. I added extracts like pumpkin pie spice or banana to it and it passed as a coffee house drink.

I'm doing the same thing actually although I haven't made myself one yet...lol. I just bought the whey Protein at Wal Mart it was $15 for a huge tub of it...the brand is Body Fortress and its vanilla flavor. I'm also planning on getting the chocolate flavor too..

I plan on trying it tomorrow and if I don't like it I'm just gonna get the sugar free Carnation Instant Breakfast...because I know I like those....even thought they will probably be more expensive.

I used the Muscle Milk Light- Especially the "Cafe latte". The best part for me was that there is caffeine- I use it at Breakfast ill have one cup of coffee then i have the Cafe latte- I used to drink almost a pot of coffee- I was worried about caffeine withdrawal so I cut down slowly and this works for me. Sometimes I get a shot of espresso and mix ice, the shake and the shot- It is like a frappucinno!

Anyway I also really like the Atkins too- strawberry-

I bough mostly Ready to Drink- I kept a couple in the freezer - if I was going out for the day I could grab one so I would have it when I was hungry and by then it would defrost but stay cold.

I have also used the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury unflavored - not bad- just put a scoop in a glass of milk, or mixed with a carnation instant breakfast (sugar fee) and milk.

I was genuinly shocked how much easier the liquid diet was then I expected- I will be honest I took dexatrim appetite suppressant the first 3 days but on the 4th day I forgot and realized I wasn't as hungry as I thought- I just missed "chewing" and grazing all day (which is why I need the band...)

I just got my band Nov 22nd- I am at the "mushies" stage but aside from cream of wheat and mashed pots I dont really like many mushies so I still use the MMLs.

So far I have lost 32lbs (since the 1st doctor visit

Anyway good luck to you!

My nutritionist told me you can buy the powder that is designed to mix in with food, like pudding or mashed potatos or Soup. I personally have tried different powders via my mom using them and find them all DISGUSTING. I'm a picky eater I guess. But for me, that's my plan. The nutritionist said the powders are the same amount of protien per use as the shakes- but for me I think will be easier to get down. Good luck with the shakes if that's the way you go!

Tabby.

Everyone's tastes are different. You'll have to try and find what you like.

I've had unjury and it's not bad. They sell chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, unflavored, and chicken Soup. Unflavored is good to add to other items like applesauce, etc. But it still has a taste.

Lately I've been buying The Ideal chocolate Milk and like it better than Unjury chocolate but again personal opinion.

I didn't care for the synthrax brand flavors but those are mostly fruit flavors and coffee flavor, which I don't like anyway, but I hear lots of people love those and Isopure from GNC.

Most Protein can be sold in sample size packages. Buy a few from different places and see what you like. Also what you like pre-op may change and you might not like it post-op. that happened to me.

I'm going to try the muscle milk cake batter next.

These are what I'm using and I love most of them. I mix them with my fat free Soy milk and some ice and sometimes fruit.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
