Breath-tex h. pylori

Recommended Posts

I just went this morning to do my 1st Nutrition visit and my Breath-tex test, it was postive. I could not beleive it! I still can't believe this! I have to take 14 days of Prevpac and have read that the meds do not work and that the side effects are terrible. I read that the test is not accurate and that after taking the meds for 14 days I have to wait for another 14 days after taking meds for accurate test. I have read a lot of crap online about this and how you get it and how you get rid of it. Dr will not do surgery with a postive test result, only good news that came out of this is that we do not have to have this test result sent to insurance to try and get approval.

Has anyone else been through this? How did you handle it?

Thanks!

It's really NOT a big deal, don't let Dr. Google scare you :) I tested positive for h. pylori, and I did the 2 weeks of antibiotics. The hardest part was remembering to take them so often, but I didn't have any horrible side effects. I'd say just try to eat a lot of yogurt. My re-test was clear and that was the end of it. I hope it'll be easy for you too!

How long did you have to wait for the re-test after finishing the meds? My dr saw 4 weeks after! i said oh my gosh!! That long?

That's a good question, I'm not really sure what the time frame was. I did my pre-op blood tests in plenty of time to do my 2 weeks on the antibiotics and it didn't have any effect on my surgery date.

I also had a positive test for h. pylori. Luckily my doctor does not make you retest if you take the meds as prescribed. Just remembering to take all the meds is the only thing that was a pain about it.

I had H. pylori too, but long ago and did not have to get a retest after taking the meds. i am assuming that they worked for me as i no longer had the issues i had before i took them. yes they suck taking them, cause there is so damn many of them and for 2 weeks. the only side effect i had was i had the taste of licking a metal can in my mouth all the time. i had horrible acid reflux when i was diagnosed and after the meds, i no longer had the reflux and stopped my nexium.

they are probaly making you retest since you are having the surgery soon.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
