Hi all, I am just wondering what made you choose this new journey??

I eat healthy foods, but way to much at each sitting. Is that a good reason?? I am 225# 5'4'', 31 years old.

I have been pleased with my band. I was 232, age 28, and 5'4". I was very active, but ate too much. I had tried numerous diets, but none that lasted long term. I have not had any regrets since being banded 6/16. I'm 40 pounds lighter and feel great. The diet part has become a permanent lifestyle change for me and not a "chore" like it was always in the past. I now try to walk 2-4 miles per day and I actually look forward to exercising. The last couple of days I haven't been able to walk and I feel so guilty. It's amazing how losing weight can change your outlook and up your motivation. I'm always here if you have questions. For me I am ready to move forward with my life. this weight is doing nothing but holding me back. I am ready to loss some weight and never look back. I have high blood pressure and PCOS. In the future i want to be able to have kids. I do not want to be in a position where i am putting myself or my baby in any risk. My family history is gray and i wam ready to change the pattern. With the lapband I know i will be able to move forward with my life. I am tired of the Yo Yo diets. This band is like a key to my future!

I'm 47 and have lost 95lb since being banded on 13 April 2011. I have so much energy it's driving my husband crazy. When we walk, he tells me to slow down because he can't keep up and he is still the same skinny guy I ment almost 30 years ago. When we cycle, he tells me I'm pushing him too hard. I wish I had done this years ago but at least now I know I have many years of good health to look forward to. Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

HI lea3277... We sound pretty simular. I am actually booked in for November 30th I am excited but scared at the same time. I know that I will still be able to eat the food I love, just not as much. I am ok with that. I really do love healthy foods. I know that 1.5 chicken breasts, a cup of carrots, and a huge house salad with "good" dressing is healthy food choices, but it would be so much healthier if I ate half and was satisfied... But I am not... bah!! I will be with the band, right?!?!?

40 pounds in 4 months is amazing!! Great job!!! What is your goal weight?? I am thinking 150 pounds, but I am not sure.... I will be asking you questioins!! hahaha, Thank you for the post!!

Of course I got the band because I want to lose weight and be healthier and feel better about myself.

I think what I really like about my band is that I don't feel like I cheated by getting it. I worried that I would. That it would be so easy and I would just have dropped the weight in months (not that it would have been something terrible haha). I worried that people would think I just took the easy way out. However, I still have to work my butt off to lose weight. I'm still dieting and exercising. But when it comes to eating, I have a little friend who makes it much easier to only eat 1200 calories a day. So when I finally do get the weight off, I can be proud of myself knowing that I did this and it wasn't easy. I worked hard and I got the results, just like everybody else who has gotten the lap band or has done it without it.

So don't think it's going to make your life a million times easier, because it won't. But if you're good to it, it will be good to you. And you'll be proud of what you accomplish.

Hi Stacey, I'm am an old, retired guy who has allowed himself to gain a little weight each year until I found myself with diabetes and sleep apnea.

According to my PCP, the only way I was going to get rid of the symtoms of these was to lose weight. I've tried diets for years and always seem

to gain it back so he suggested the Lap band because it was the least invasive of the WLS. I've already lost 40lbs and see no reason why I can't

lose the other 60. I've already cut way back on my meds and my blood sugar is normal.

I chose lapband, because I get bored with dieting! Usually, I would lose about 20-30 lbs, and get bored. It might stay off, but gradually gain it back. I never, in all my dieting met goal. Only once did I actually drop below 200 in the last 20 years. I thought I looked good then. I weighed 188 but once again gained it and more back. I now weigh 145 give or take 2 lbs. I am at goal!

If I get bored, my band remind me!!!!I had my surgery almost 2 years ago, (Oct. 30,2009). I am happy with the new me! Good luck on your decision. BY the way, my family was so happy with my results, my son has had it done too. He is 36, had 10 lbs to lose and has lost 55lbs so far. he had surgery on August 5, 2011. You too can do it, you are young. Karen

I'm the same as you - I prefer healthy, whole foods, but I had an insatiable appetite pre-band. I'd have Breakfast and then have another breakfast. I'd eat a "normal person's" lunch, and then have more. I'd make dinner and serve up a huge portion for myself, and an hour later I'd be back there picking at the leftovers!

I'm just over 6 weeks post-band and down 9.2kg, which is 20.24 pounds. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

That sounds just like me!! I have breakfast (high fibre Cereal and milk) then a snack (cheese, or granola bar) then lunch (tuna sandwich, or fried egg sandwich, or something like that) then supper ( huge portions of what ever healthy food I cook. like Baked chicken breast, carrots and baked sweet potato fries make from scratch. I would eat 1.5 chicken breasts, 1/2 cup carrots, 3/4 cup fries) Then evening hits and I am hungry again.... so popcorn, trail mix, whatever I have in the house.... BAH!! I cook healthy (5 out of 7 days a week) I just need the tools to eat less of it!!!!!!!!! like a lap band and a small plate!!! lol.

I am so glad to have found this board!!! I am going to add you to my "friends" on here if you do not mind. I am scheduled as a self payer on November 30th. and that day could not come sooner!!!

Yep, we sound very similar... I cook from scratch at home almost all the time (to the point of making my own pasta out of flour/egg/olive oil), and although we dine out a lot, I've always tended towards healthier options (ham and salad sandwich with avocado and mustard, or sushi, or yum cha (dim sum) but no fried food, just the steamed dumplings)... But yeah, it was just an enormous volume. And it wasn't out of gluttony, it was out of genuine hunger returning sooner for me than it seemed to for other people!

I'm glad to have helped you, and I'm happy to answer any questions you may have along the way... I was partially self-pay. I'm in Australia so our insurance system is different, but part of the cost was covered by our medicare, part by my private health insurance, and hubby and I paid the rest. Like I said, I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

I didn't want my stomach cut up, and my guts cut out and disposed of 20" of intestines. that's longer then some rooms in a house..

Then re-route everything else.

I also wanted to live.. People that I new that had this fantastic WLS had Died. So I was interested in something that if it didn't work, I could go back.

You'll never go back to Fat Land.
