Where is your port??

Recommended Posts

So my port is located right under my sternum. I read that some people's is on top of the sternum but mine is under it. I think it is in a good place b/c it is in a natural indention below the sternum, attached to the abs and will not show much when I lose a lot of weight. It think it is in a bad place b/c my girls are rather large and require a heavy duty under wire bra. The under wire often presses on it when I am lounging in bed or in the recliner. Any time I lean against something, I can feel it being pressed on. I have always been a stomach sleeper but can no longer sleep that way because of the port. I can feel it pulling when I try to sleep on my stomach or sides and now I have to hug a pillow as I sleep to keep the pressure off of it. It has been two months since my surgery so everything has healed. I can't ever seem to go an hour without touching it or feeling it under the skin. I am not too sure I can go the rest of this journey with the port distraction. I am having a great experience with the band itself, not getting stuck anymore and almost at the green zone. It is the port that I can not get used to. If things do not get better for me in that area, I my have to have a port replacement/movement surgery. I know this is mostly mental, me being aware of a foreign object inside my body, but it is really starting to get to me. I would like to know where everyone's port is located and how much they like or dislike it. Thanks!!

Right after i was banded my port was directly above my belly-button, but when I had my Tummy Tuck last month he moved it over to the left of it. I was never able to constantly feel it - unless one of my kids kneed me in it (and that hurt). How long ago was your surgery? Maybe that's why you are so aware and able to feel it.

My port is to the right of my belly button. No where near my sternum. I had surgery january 2011.

My port is a few inches below my belly button. It never used to bother me but now I notice if I'm leaning up against something (like the counter when I'm cooking) it feels sore. I guess it's because there's less padding to protect it, but believe me I'm not complaining about that! Otherwise it doesn't really bother me but I have been known to randomly poke it when I'm bored laugh.gif

Mine is centered about 1-1 1/2 inches below my sternum. It's been a perfect placement for me. It's well below my bra. I am a stomach sleeper and have had zero discomfort with it.

MIne is on the left, midway down the rib cage.

Mine is on my right, about an inch under where my ribs end. My ribcage pushes against it and causes almost constant discomfort. Like right now as I'm sitting on a couch, upright, it hurts. I'm not thrilled about the placement.

Mine is a few inches above my belly button. I can't feel it, don't even know it's there. Once i lose this weight i'm sure it will be visible though.

Thanks hdavis72 and Georgia Peach...I feel better now. I was beginning to worry that I was the only one with a port on the left.

I thought at one time I read someone had a port near their arm pit, maybe a little lower then the actual pit. I wonder if anyone has a placement there?

My band is located right above my left breast. Out of sight, out of mind. I can easily feel it, my dr. has no problem accessing it and it does not protrude. I love the location and when people ask where or how it feels, I don't have to show them my belly!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
