Port Site Looks "Sunken in"?!?!

Recommended Posts

I was banded 08/18/2011. I'm healing great, but I have a strange question that I haven't been able to find the answer to. At the top of my port incision spot, it looks like my skin is kinda sunk in. Idk if it from the swelling that is still lingering on the inside or what. It doens't hurt, just looks a little strange...Has anyone else noticed anythign like this?!?!

I was banded on 8-17-11 and I have that too. It is funny looking, but not painful. Mine feels bumpy too. All my other other incision looks great with Nice straight lines and clean looking scars. I have a friend who had surgery two years ago who had this same thing. Hers 'leveled' out as she lost weight and is barely noticeable. Let's keep our fingers crossed that ours do too :) I cant wait to see if others have this too.

Yeah I have the same thing. It looks like a crater or indent right?? Was banded 8/24 and I still have it. It doesn't hurt, but that incision is the one that is healing the slowest. Mine now actually looks like it has some bruising on the top of it even though it doesn't hurt. It's really weird. I'm glad someone else has something similar. I go to the doctor 9/13 so I'm going to ask then why it looks that way.

Indention is a good description of it :)

yep...indention describes it very well. And it does look kinda bruised around it now, even though it is not painful. Thanks for the feedback! I just wanted to make sure I was healing "normal"!!

I had an infection of the skin around my port site and incision and it was swollen. Now that the infection is pretty much gone and the swelling has gone down my port incision is indented as well.

Looks funny because my port is on its side (still fillable) so it is a lump and beside that is a mini crater. LOL.

I was banded on September 6th and mine looks the same way. I thought they might have taken some skin from me but now I know I'm not alone.

Yep, mine looked the same way. I was banded over a year ago. As you heal and lose weight, it will gradually get back to normal.

I'm not recently banded, but as I've lost weight my incisions, more so my port incision seem indented too, like I've lost more fat from their. Must have something to do with the actual trauma to it.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
