1 Year Anniversary- 60 pounds down and non-scale victories

Recommended Posts

I can't believe I've just passed my 1 year anniversary. It's incredible to be 60 pounds lighter. Each week, when I weigh in, it feels like the weight is coming off so slowly, but a year later, I see how quickly it all adds up. It hasn't all be smooth. I've twice had to have fills decreased because I couldn't even hold down liquids. And I've had to learn how to eat in new ways. After years of dieting, all of a sudden chicken breast is the enemy not a staple-- I just can't swallow it. And every once in a while, something I've eaten a hundred time in the last year, just doesn't go down.

But despite everything, it's all been worth it. I know from the scale, and the mirror and the compliments, of course, but there's more. So I wanted to look at the non-scale victories:

* I have so much more energy

* My feet don't ache after walking home

* My shoulders don't ache from the bra straps digging in

* I have emptied my closet of boxes of smaller clothes that now fit

* I have donated many boxes of clothes that are too big

* I have learned to love my trainer (if not always the actual workouts)

* I have truly learned to love yoga

What are your non-scale victories?

We share many of the same NSVs. My most cherished NSV is that I have learned to forgive myself when I fall off the wagon and that all is not lost, but rather to jump back onto that wagon and hang on for dear life! I used to beat myself up and give up. No longer will I do that!

The only thing that I have not learned and probably will never learn is to love my workouts! hate, hate exercise, but it is a mandatory thing in my life, so I just get it done!

All in all not a bad year. I like the new and improving me! congrats yl2010...wishing you continued success!:D

yl2010,

That is wonderful to Celebrate not just the number of pounds lost but other great things that are associated with weight loss. Well you wanted to hear some of our non-scale victories:

1. I can wear my HIGH HEELS again! without cramping and swelling. Yayyyy!

2. Regulated my Blood Sugar/Glucose levels. Dr took me off of all medications!

3. Walk up a flight of Stairs without feeling like Im gonna have a heartattack, seriously!

4.Not afraid to Sit in any chair I please, without doing an on sight inspection first. (afraid it will break or will I fit)

Yayyyy for all of us.:D

You guys are all so supportive. Thank you so much for everything. Fefe, I'd blocked out the chairs, and I laughed at your reminder. I flew recently for business and realized I didn't feel apologetic about how much space I took up in the seat.

Yvonne

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
