Caffeine

Recommended Posts

I've heard differing opinions about whether we can have caffeine post-band.

What have you been told?

I was told no caffeine during healing. I love coffee, caffeine free tea wasn't doing it. So as soon as I was not on Clear Liquids I added a cup of coffee in the A.M. with a little skim milk. I am still drinking it, and am now into my 20th month after surgery. Good luck, follow your surgeon's guidelines. Karen

I am currently getting off of it to make it easier for me post op. The surgeon told me no caffeine because by the time I get out of the hospital and drinking a little liquid, I'll have a huge withdrawal headache. I would rather not have that so I am down from four diet sodas a day to half a cup of green tea. Am going to stop with that in the next couple of days so I'll be caffeine free within the week.

never gave it up, never will! I make a strong latte with skim milk every morning and enjoy it! I have had now problems from it and continue with a wonderful weight-loss. It is up to you what you put in your body..

My surgeon told me to stay off of it as well. I haven't had any since post op. I'm going to try and stay off of it. I may sneak it sometimes =D

I was never told to stay away. I used to not drink it, but now I am drinking it again. I think the problem with coffee is all the sugar and milk that we put in it. Watch what you put in the cup and you shouldn't have any problems.

I stayed away from it during my healing period but started drinking it again about two months after surgery. I have a cup in the morning with some FF Creamer and I don't have any problems.

That was a question at the seminar and my surgeon said you do not have to go off it. I have a very strong ,sugar free light soy latte every morning. I know I will have to hold on the soy milk until I go to full liquids but I cannot imagine giving up coffee. Now I fully expect to listen to my body and see if it will be tolerated post op, I may have to Water it down a bit. However: I am down with quitting diet Dr Pepper, and Coke Zero, I probably have 10 a week. I am down with quitting alcohol for a while , I do have a few cocktails on the weekend .I am ready to embrace Portion Control. And the new words "No More I am satisfied"...will become ny mantra,. I am even down with and ready to go Head to Head with the Head Munchies Monster . BUT, I am Not giving up my Soy Latte!

I researched this yesterday. Caffeine decreases healing time and increases stomach acid production. Both we dont want....But I am dying for an iced nonfat sugar free caramel macchiato

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
