Any post-op RN's? How long out of work

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

Just had a question to any RN's who have had lap band. How long were you out from work? I'm on my 6 month supervised diet which ends September 14th.Hopefully I will be banded by the beginning of October. But dont know what time frame I would need for recovery. I work the12hr shift 11-11 3 days in a row. Any advice would be great. Cheers, Maggie

I also work 12's ad an rn. I was off 15 days post op. I work ob/nicu & don't have much lifting so that made it easier to go back. But I did have a ton of walking. It wasn't to bad after 2 wks off. A couple of other nurses @ my hosp also have had it done & they came back @ 2 wks but with lifting restrictions.

I was off a week. I work ER/Urgent Care 12 hour shifts and just followed modified lifting restrictions. Was totally fine.

I work on a busy Neuro floor and stayed out 18 days. My unit doesn't do light duty so you either do the job or stay at home. Also I wanted to go back when I was on mushies. I barley have time to drink anything on my job except for lunch time so I feared getting dehydrated without the ability to sip throughout the day. I say take at least 2-3 weeks off.

I am an RN I went back to work after a week, but I have good friends that are the CNA's and LPN's were I work, so I didn't do any lifting for about 5 weeks. I didn't want to mess anything up!

I took off 2 weeks. I work 3 12hr shifts/wk. I could have taken off one week, but had so much LTS hrs. accrued. In reality only needed the one week.

hi there! I am post banded June 23rd. I work in the ER and was of for 4 weeks. I could have come back about 3 weeks out but I took the extra week because we only have 2 nurses in my er and I didn't want to hurt myself lifting. The whole thing has gone well for me so far I have lost 25 lbs in the first 2 months. I haven't had to have a fill yet either. My next appt is on Sept 9th so I will see if I get a fill then. I think I may need a little bit but not too much. Good luck to you!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
