Bborderline BMI and 3 month pre-op diet any suggestions???

Recommended Posts

I had my surgical consult on Aug 24, and am looking at a December date for banding ( yeah!!!). All went well, my surgeon was very positive, patient and answered all of my questions. I then went to the insurance /financial counelor. I already knew the procedure is covered and i am pre-qualified, but was surprised to find out my coverage requires 3 months of supervised diet. She then suggested I not loose very much weight because I may end up being rejected by the insurance company.. I have Blue Cross/Blue Shield New Mexico PPO. My BMI is 36. with comorbidities of sleep apnea and reflux.Has anyone else been in this position and how did you handle it? I meet with the nutritionist on Sept 9, and have been trying not to loose witght ever sence I want to the seminar July 8. I was underthe impression that the insurance companies go by the first consult weight....Thank you all...I love this site!!!!:D

I'm in the same boat. My BMI is 42.3 I need to stay above 40. I lost 10 lbs and gained most of it back. I have only one comorbid high blood pressure. I need 2 comorbids to qualify at a BMI of 35. So I weigh daily so at my next visit I can be at least 2 lbs smaller. I have a total window of 12lbs for 5 mths. Thiis is freaking me out I'm scared. They also suggested I not lose too much weight or insurance will deny. So I'm making better choices in food and exercise is minimal. I cut down on the Protein Shakes because I lost that 10lbs in one week using protein.About the first weight I don't think my insurance use that one, that's why I can't lose too much weight. Good luck. Keep us posted.

Hi. I'm in the same boat you are, borderline bmi and i have no cormodities. My nurse and nutritionist both said, when they submit the paper work they always use the weight from the initial consult, so i can lose weight. My 90days will be up nov 18, so i was hoping to either get it done around that time or wait til my Christmas break

From everything I've heard, insurance records your weight from your first consult. It doesn't matter whether you lose weight or not.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
