Non low-carb bandsters

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. My doctor is really big on a low carb diet. He wants us to have 30g or less per day. I've followed it and lost 48 lbs since June 6th, but I am getting very burnt out. I am just wondering how many people have been successful on just a low calorie/low fat diet. I know the choice is mine in the end. I still want to keep it lower carb (like 50g a day), but I am just wondering how many people have had success including carbs. I am just going crazy lol. Maybe I should just try it for a few weeks and see how it goes?

I count calories, don't pay any attention at all to carbs. I've been very successful. I eat anywhere from 1000 - 1200 calories a day. I'd say most days my carbs are between 50 - 75.

Good Luck!

I was banded 2 weeks after you and have lost 42 pounds. I also am like the poster above. I only count calories and try to get between 900-1100 a day. I do not let my carbs go over 75 grams though! Hope this helps!

We were actually banded on the same day, I just include my two week pre op diet in my weight loss total :)

I go through periods where I reduce my carbs to 30g or less per day but normally my goal is about 50 (although occasionally I eat as many as 100g but that is rare)

Mine also includes my pre-op diet, but it was only 2 days! Great job so far!

I eat 1100-1200 calories a day and my carbs are usually 100-120. It is hard to stay low carb if you want to incorporate fruits and vegetables into your diet. I always aim to get 80 grams or more of Protein. I dont worry too much about fat but I am usually 30-40 grams of fat a day.

I am not low carbing really but I am watching what carbs I ingest. I don't eat bread, white rice or potatoes. I do eat a lot of carbs from fruit but I am working out a lot so I do need the carb energy. Don't worry about the grams really, worry about what kind of carbs you are getting.

I dont low carb at all, I lost 120lb which was about 130% of my excess weight - so i got right down to a BMI of 20 and I've kept it off for over three years now. I do do a lot of exercise, but I've never counted carbs.

I've always watched the type of carbs - I'm more into the no white type of diet. I've been a wholegrain carb eater, good stoneground bread, rolled oats, fruit and vegies.

However at the moment, becuase I've just had an ileostomy reversal, I'm living on simple white carbs. I am having huge digestive issues, I cant handle much fat or Protein at the moment and I'd certainly not risk baked Beans or wholegrain bread, I've got a really irritable gut, and I suffer majorly if I eat anything other than cardboard. So my daily intake is things like rice bubbles, crackers, plain sweet biscuits, yogurt and not much else. Its a low carbers nightmare and the unhealthiness of it does bother me a lot, but unless I want to be isolated in a smell proof room and never go to work or socialise, its how it is at the moment. I may have scurvey and ricketts by Christmas Time, but I havent gained any weight.

I really believe for most people its simply calories in, calories out and low carbing is an unecessary strain - not necessarily unhealthy, depending on what you eat, but not entirely necessary.

I'm pretty much like Thee-O, I don't count carbs anymore, but watch the "white" stuff. I don't entirely eliminate them. I save them for the weekends, or special occasions or have a very small portion. I lost 136 on Atkins only to gain it all back, so I've been there done that.

I try and focus on Protein, moderate fat, moderate carb. Aim for eating healthier by focusing on the way you prepare your food, what you eat and how much. Be mindful of your calories and exercise...that honestly helps to keep it off. And best of luck to you!

I don't count calories, carbs, Protein, or anything else. I don't measure my food, I just listen to my body and stop eating when it tells me I'm satisfied. I eat sensibly, and make sure I have protein at every meal. I eat protein first, then veggies/fruit, and then carbs if there's enough room left in my stomach. A typical meal for me would be 4-6 oz of protein, 1/4 cup veggies or fruit, and a 1/4 cup of carbs of some sort. I mix it up too so I don't get bored, so sometimes I might eat more carbs than protein at a meal and that's ok. It all evens out in the end. I try to snack on Protein Bars and other high-protein Snacks and/or veggies and fruit. I've taken this weight loss approach as a lifestyle change, not as a diet. I don't want to be counting calories and Proteins and carbs, weighing and measuring my food for the rest of my life, so I haven't done it during my weight loss. I do once in awhile measure my portion sizes just to make sure I'm staying on track and keeping myself in check. Overall, your goal should be to live a healthy lifestyle and make healthy choices. :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
