I am so sorry that you had to go thorough all of this. What does 'prestine' mean and why did he have to remove the band?

I think she meant the band was in "pristine" or excellent condition when removed, with no signs of erosion whatsoever. It was the port infection that caused all the problems. I wish she had told us if she was a diabetic. I have my own little list here to see if my dr. is right on some of his hunches on port infections and diabetics getting them more commonly, although there is absolutely no proof of this. I realize there are many that are diabetic that have sailed through this journey. I'm simply curious in this woman's condition with two port infections and finally band removal. Hope she chimes in once again.

Yes, I am a Diabetic, although it's diet controlled, and my AC1 is actually below 7 which it's my understanding technically makes me NOT Diabetic anymore. I test my sugars daily still, but they're all within normal range. I have been told that having Diabetes makes you heal more slowly, but not that it makes you more likely to suffer from an infection (unless it's a Diabetic ulcer or something similar). I tested positive for Staph during my port removals. My Mom is Diabetic and has suffered numerous foot/ulcer infections which eventually led to various foot amputations and finally a below the knee amputation. This surgery (Band) was one way for me to get healthy and NOT follow in her footsteps!! My Dr. told me that I was not more or less likely than any other patient to get a repeat infection, especially b/c he was placing the new port in a totally different area. He said I had the same chance as everyone else...which is minimal. I think less than 2%. I hope he wasn't misleading me?

Oh, Erin, my heart goes out to you. A staph infection is nasty stuff, and must be dealt with. But there's no predicting who will get one, and from what I understand many of them are actually picked up in hospitals.

Big hugs to you, mom. We are all pulling for you to heal up completely and move on. :)

Sorry to hear about all the trouble you have been going through with your port infection. I know first hand how bad that packing a wound hurts, My c-section came open after my last child and I had to pack and clean it twice a day till it healed( took almost 2 months). I sure hope you start to heal faster. I will be thinking about you and will send a prayer your way.

Dear Erin,

I am still thinking about you on a daily basis and actually prayed for you at dinner tonight with my family! They are still trying to figure out who you are. I told them "a friend."

I feel so badly for you. And to have to go through this TWICE. You poor thing. :-(

I realize doctors don't have all the answers but nothing ever "just happens", there is always a reason for something going wrong in the body.

I am so sorry this is happening to you.

Erin, thanks for letting me know you were diabetic. My dr. is going to conferences studying the reasons that bands erode, and they have found it is happening more and more to people less resistant to infection such as diabetics. This could be the case with you. Staph is particularly bad. I'm so sorry for the terrible journey you have had with this band. My prayers go out to you.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
