Second guessing myself..

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone out there is having the same problem with there Lap Band as I am? I was banded May 11th 2010 and I have only lost 20lbs. I am constantly burping even if I don't eat anything I also have heartburn even if I don't eat anything. I was told by my doctor that I have a choice either a Gastric Bypass or the Lap Band and obviously I chose the Lap Band.. I was wondering if anyone out there has had there doctor take out there Lap Band and replace it with a Gastric Bypass?

Sure, people have done that, though I doubt most of them post here anymore ;)

If you are burping, have heartburn and aren't losing weight then you are probably too tight!

Kudos to you for considering another surgery! It sure takes some courage and determination.

The decision is obviously between you and your surgeon. I don't know your situation so I can't tell you anything... but weigh the pros and cons.

I don't think you can expect a truly helpful advice from any of us on the forum because none of us know you as well as you and your surgeon.

Only tidbit of advice I can say is to educate yourself. Know the ins and outs of BOTH surgeries and their respective inherent risks. Go to PUBMED.COM and research peer reviewed journals. Don't just go by the internet. TONS AND TONS of inaccurate and misleading information.

Do your research, and then make your decision.

P.S. I implore you to not just find a surgeon who is willing to do the operation. Speaking for experience, there are surgeons out there who are motivated only by another client and another paycheck. Go to a surgeon that knows EVERYTHING about you-- physically and psychologically. If THAT surgeon thinks surgery would be beneficial, ONLY THEN go ahead with it.

Best of luck to you!

It is crazy, but being to tight can be the cause. I don't think most docs would encourge you to do another surgery if there isn't a fixable problem with your band. He may just run an upper GI to see how things are flowing before he'll do anything. Good luck

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
