NO PRE-OP Say whaaat?!

Recommended Posts

So I was lurking on this forum for about a month (by the way you all are amazing!!) so after being approved for surgery this past Friday I was expecting them to say, "oh and by the way, only liquids from now until surgery...Welp, I was in for a big suprise when she said "Just come here on July 6th for pretesting, and your pre-op appt with the dr will be the day before surgery." soooooo Maye she'll tell me only liquids at the July 6th appt. Even still, my surgery is July 13th so that's only a week of liquids!!

Sound familiar to anyone?

Not all doctors require a preop diet.

My doc doesnt but my BMI was low so my liver wasn't a problem. Sometimes he has patients that have fatty livers but he still doesnt require a pre op diet.

I had no pre-op diet, I was just warned not to gain weight in that last week before surgery. Congrats!

I have a pre-op diet, but it's more of an Atkins-like thing (very high in lean Proteins, low in carbs) rather than a liquid diet.

One week tomorrow is surgery day! ohmy.gif

My pre-op diet was only the day before surgery. I had to drink only liquids. After the surgery I had to do a liquid diet for 1 month and then I could go straight to eating regular food. We had no mushy stage. No eating for a month nearly killed me.

My sugery is this Thursday, June 16th. I went in for my pre-op last Wednesday. I was given a diet that wasn't oo bad. All Protein and starch free veggies, stay under 30 carbs per day for five days. Last two days nothing but liquids, Jello, sugar free popsicles. I was surprised at the amount of weight I have taken off in such a short time. He was very serious about having our livers be shrunk and like jello so that he can move around it to get the band on. I'm on all liquids today, I am hungry, but it is not that bad. Good luck to you.

You're lucky! It really depends on the surgeon and even then they sometimes give pre-op instructions on a patient by patient basis depending on overall health and BMI.

I had no pre-op diet requirements and it was only suggested I do Clear Liquids after midnight until my surgery (which was 12:30 pm the next day). It surprised me too, but it was also pretty great :)

My surgeon didn't even do it on a patient by patient basis. In the packet that was given out at the seminar it had a one week pre op diet list in it. It is weird because it was probably almost 7 months prior to surgery and I dint think he reminded me to do it before surgery. I still did it

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
