Any July 2011 Bandsters?

Hey There,

Just looking for any July 2011 banders. I just started my process, but as that I am "self-pay", I am on a fast track to surgery. Although, not terribly obese (bmi 34), I am using lap band surgery as a tool for continued success after loosing weight. I have always been able to join a program(diet or exercise or prescription) and loose weight.....I've done it several times with several different programs (not a good thing), but I always gain the weight back and more. Now that I am in my 40s, it is harder to loose and faster to come back. No more, I say! I want to be heathy in my future - family history/genetics dictates that I will/can be using a walker or wheel chair from degenerative bones and joints, heart disease, diabetes. I am trying to steer clear of that but still keep seeing myself heading in that direction, so now is the time for further action. Although apprehensive about going under, I am reading all the good things about the lap band procedure and am hoping that it is just a little more than the tubiligation and endemetrial ablasion that I had done last year. At least, I am thinking of it that way, so as to not scare myself too badly!

  • Anyone else dreading the preop liquid diet?

With only 2 more weeks until surgery.....I'm sort of tempted to go buy something that doesn't fit. Like a pair of jeans that is a size or two too small. I'm a size 20, and most stores don't sell size

I'm scheduled for July 1. I am getting really excited now. I was nervous in the beginning, now the nerves have calmed down but I'm sure they will start up again soon!!!

Me too! How are you feeling?

To all my fellow July banders that have just been banded:

Was the actual surgery and first few days post op everything that you thought it would be? Anything more? Less? As painful? Less painful? Any realizations you weren't expecting?

Today is my 12th PreOp liquids only diet.... July 6th is the big day! After researching, learning, and thinking about gastric banding, here I am 3 days away from following through with it. Crazy!!!

Just banded the 1st, good luck on the 6th! :) yeah!

Just had my final appointment. My thyroid and vitamin d levels are off but still going ahead with the surgery! I can't believe it's finally happening!!!

Less than 24 hours to go!

Hi, I'm Erica.

Banding on July 28th, 2011. First Dr. appointment was on July 1, 2011. Self paying most of it, the rest is covered by insurance to repair a hiatal hernia. Extremely nervous but very excited. :)

Go in at 11:30am tomorrow. I can't wait.

Did/will you guys say anything to significant others in the off chance something goes array?

Me too! How are you feeling?

I'm feeling OK, but not as great as I thought I would. I have a tough time with the pain killers. they make me neaseous which is no fun. I thry to take them only at bed time to get me to sleep. I feel like I have a stomach virus, I guess that is a good thing since I'm not feeling hungry at all. Each day I'm feeling alittle better but I did think it was going to be easier than this.

How are you doing?

Hey alygurl, we're going in 45 mins (ok, you live pretty far from DC) apart! Not nervous at all. Today is my all liquid diet. Have to stand post for 8 hours and provide food for 14 people. That's gonna stink. Bad enough to have to work! I was supposed to be off by 2300 hours. Now it appears 0100 hours is more realistic. Well at least I won't be bored going through the next 24 hours. Good luck and good health!

To those who haven't gotten it yet, I highly recommend a book called Bandwagon by Jean McMillan...it's on Amazon.

Got my pre-op appointment tomorrow! Ugh SOOOOOOOO many questions!!! I'm making a list of things to ask so I don't forget anything!

Will you share your list of questions? My pre-op appt is tomorrow at 1:00. Today is day 5 of pre-op and I am down a few lbs (3 to be exact), I am on Optifast and it is not too bad!!! I bought berry flavored protein bullets and will get additional protein shakes from WalMart. I also have ordered my vitamins that are chewable from WalMart, great prices and they ship to your door free.

Hi Everyone,

I was banded on friday, July 1st and was home the next day by 1:00. The pain was pretty bad the first day but has gotten a lot better since then. As for the gas pains... walk, walk, walk, it really does help. I am now on the liquid diet and feel pretty good. I'm actually not hungry.... FINALLY! LOL

To all you other July banders good luck. Here's to our "New Beginning".

:)

I'm actually not hungry.... FINALLY! LOL

She said, I'm actually not hungry . . . . . such inspiration!!!

Good Morning Everyone!

With less than 24 hours to, I feel surprisingly ready. Not looking forward to waking up in pain, but that's nothing compared to the emotional pain I've suffered for the past 29 years! I lost 5lbs this week!!! I was able to button a pair of pants yesterday that I haven't been able to wear comfortably since I bought them. That felt amazing! It was the perfect reminder of why I have chosen to do this. Avoiding the sweets and all the other delicious cook-out foods this weekend wasn't easy, but my perseverence paid off!

Its been so nice to hear from everyone that has just been banded. You all have inspired me so much! I plan on updating you guys as soon as possible tomorrow. :)

So my plan for today is to STAY BUSY! I'm on a clear liquid diet and I'm soo hungry lol. My 13 year old has been out of the country since last monday, so planning her homecoming will keep me busy! I hope the anticipation doesn't get the better of me :P

How are all of the other "5th bandits" doing today?

hi everyone, I am on day six of my 14 day liquid diet. It has been very hard but at the end I think the return on this small investment will be enormous. I am getting banded on July 14 an I am so exited. Hang in there everyone. We CAN DO THIS!

Hey July banders,

I have been following this blog for a while, getting great tips during my pre-op phase. I'm a bit shy to post, but I am so anxious about my surgery TOMORROW I figured I had nothing to lose!! July 5th. It all happened so fast. I had been going through the pre-referral process for months and I thought it was in my distant future. Then, I got my insurance approval, my dr called, and the surgery was scheduled 2.5 weeks out which meant pre- op in a few days. Now I'm on my last day, clear liquids only and am not looking forward to it. As much as I despise my protein shakes, they take the hunger pains. I weighed 261 2 weeks ago and when I weighed myself this morning, I am 245. Not bad!!! I'll be in surgery tomorrow at 9:45. I am so scared! I don't do well with pain. My hubby will be there waitingfor me! Good luck to all other future banders, ESP July 5th twins!
