Where do you buy your protein powder?

Recommended Posts

Not sure if we are allowed to ask this or not but where do you buy your Protein powder from?

I've seen the actual Protein prices and the shipping prices vary so much from website to website.

Do any of you know who is truly the cheapest?

Not sure who is the cheapest, but I bought mine at Amazon.com. it is syntha-6 vanilla ice cream flavor. It comes in almost a 3lb container for $25ish. DELICIOUS!

Is that thick or thin? I bought some BSN Lean Dessert and it mixes up really, really thick. I'm not liking it.

Nutri Shop. The are independently owned stores and the people who work there are really helpful.

I use Unjury and order it from the website - around $20 per can (includes shipping). My doctor sells it for $24 and the pharmacy at the hospital has it for $30.

I use Body Fortress Protein powder from Wal Mart. $16 for 2lb tub, no shipping. Comes in basic S/C/V.

Good luck everyone!

Sam's Club and costco have good prices on it. So does Meijer but they are only in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio. Someone told me they got it pretty cheap at Walmart too.

Yes, most doctors want you to eat solid Protein once you have healed from surgery. Think of your pouch as a funnel. The liquid passes right through and does not give you fullness. I buy vanilla whey isolate and use half a scoop in my greek yoghurt for Breakfast (and 1/4 cup high protein Kashi cereal). The only other time I use Protein Shakes is as a prework out "snack". It can be 8-9 hours between lunch and dinner since I have an hour commute and go to the gym after work. I have a Premier RTD (Costco) which helps me make it through the work out. Only 160 Cal 30 g protein.

I calle dmy doctors office to ask if I can buy more Bariatric Advantage from the (cheaper), and they said YES but do not want me to...not wanting me to have ANY liquid calories and to be getting my Protein from solid foods.

Wow. You have only been banded 2 months and they don't want you to drink ANY Protein? Did they say why? My doc says that I will probably include a Liquid Protein supplement (at least 20 grams protein) the rest of my life! And that everyone, even people thin or not banded, should aim for 60-80 grams protein per day for life! So weird, the different philosophies!

How does Bariatric Advantage taste? What does it cost? I've seen it on line, but bought unjury instead.

I use the EAS whey Protein. I bought a 5lb bag at BJ's for $28.00. I also use the Syntrax Nectar which I bought at the Vitamin Shoppe for $32.00. My doctor also wants me to get my protein from food but to use the Protein Shakes as a supplement for those times when I might not reach the optimum amount. Probably for the 1st 2 years post-op at the very least.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
