I didn't even think that my hypothyroidism was not helping me when it came to weight loss!! The last few days the scale has been up and down and I get frustrated since I am following what the nutritionist told me to do, now to come read this post and see it may not all be entirely my fault!!! Totally didnt even click!!! I am on levothyroxine and for the first few days after surgery I didn't take my meds as I was afraid to swallow it, but I could really tell it's effect on my hair, felt like straw!!! UGH!!! So now I take it faithfully (it's the size of a tic-tac so I don't see a need to crush it, since I have no fill) ..... I was 209 on surgery date and after a few days, got down to 202.8, and since then, the scale has ranged from 203.0 to 207 and it's killing me!!! Of course 207 was late afternoon and all the others have been first thing in the morning....I know I really should put the scale away!!

Makes me think back, I almost didn't get surgery in time as my TSH levels were off...well, I was having arm pain issues and didn't remember to take my thyroid meds, so I had to go back and get bloodwork redone to prove my levels were off because I was a dummy and didn't take my meds then.

I've only been diagnosed about a year. Started on synthroid but my pcp moved me to levothyroxine....should I go to an endocrinologist like others? My pcp never suggested that...I go see my gyno later this month and will ask her if we need to change meds or take this further.

Thanks for posting everyone!!

kristi

Kitty : you should see a Endocrinologist for this condition. Tell your PCP to send you to a good one though.

It took him less then 6 months to get my level in a normal range.

I started out on Synthroid it didn't work for me. They even asked me if I was taking the Medication? It didn't show up in the blood work.

When I moved and got a new Dr.. I told her about the situation, and she put me on the generic brand Levothyroxine or something like that. It got into the blood system, but I felt Terrible. So I stopped taking it. I thought she was going to flip ! So I told her why should I take it if I feel so bad? I feel better without it ! That's when I told her I want to see a Endocrinologist, and she agreed. Best move I ever Made.

See if your ins. will let you go where you want without a referral if you want. But I would ask her if she knows of a good specialist.

You did the band for weight loss, you might as well get this in order too.

I had my Thyroid removed a few years ago and am on total thyroid replacement medication. My weight loss has been pretty slow the last few months. The first few months went really good, but I've already had to change the dosage of my medication, because of my weight loss. My TrueResults fill person, said over all, I've done great and not too worry too much, because it's healthier to lose it slower after you lose that first big amount. Hope that makes sense. Hang in there. I'm keeping up with my exercise and just keep going, because I know it will be worth it.

I am so discouraged. I was on vacation last week and made what I thought were great food choices and small portions. I pretty much had grilled, tuna, grouper, shrimp or scallops all week. I walked about 2 miles on the beach each day. I got home last night and have gained 3 pounds! Starting to get depressed. I have a post-op appointment today with my surgeon, so I will see what he says. I defintely am not in my green zone and have been in bandster hell for several weeks. I believe I only have 1 and a half to 2 cc's in my band.

Banded 03/30/2011

Pre-op weight 217 pds

Today 204 pds

Melbanded, the foods you mentioned have high Protein content..and if you were doing heavy excercise..it may be you are gaining muscle! Just a thought. Even though we are working to get weight off, weight is just a number. Try measuring yourself, if you aren't already.

I would also only weigh in the morning, that is the most accurate weight. Keep your chin up, sounds like you are doing great!!

I had my appointment yesterday and had a good talk with my doctor. I told him how I felt I had no band at all and that the weight I have lost so far was because I have forced myself to have small portions. I stay hungry all the time and am ready for this band to do its part!

He told me I only had 2 cc's in my band and I should feel satisfied with small portions of food (which I do not) and not feel like I am on a forced diet. Now I realize we do have to diet, in that we have to make wise food choices (which I do), but we should not feel hungry all the time. He says I am still not in the green zone. He is very conservative with his fills, so he only gave me 1cc fill yesterday. He said I should have come back sooner for a fill.

How long should you give a fill before you know if you need more?

Hi all!!! I too am on complete thyroid replacement. I had all but 1/4 (approx) of my thyroid taken out in 2007 for a massive goiter that they couldn't biopsy (because of the size). The remaining portion of my thyroid is non-functioning now. I also have PCOS.

I was on Armour until I too was told that the manufacturer pulled it off the market. I work for the company that makes Synthroid so I get it for free, otherwise I would totally inquire about getting back on it.

I'm 7 months out of surgery and am down 49 lbs, including the 4 lbs I lost a couple weeks before surgery. Very slow going. Very frustrating. BUT!!! It beats gaining weight. biggrin.gif

Well, I get mine every 90 days from my pharmacy. With no problem at all.

I posted a pharmaceutical site and Costo's comes in the cheapest.

1 you can click on the pharmacy, and it will open, and you can look around.

2 Just scroll down the page to the bottom, and you will see Armour Thyroid at costco.< /p>

Any questions, I'll try to help..

I have been dealing with hypothyroidism for about 10 years. I have been on synthroid in doses that were gradually increasing. The past 3 years my TSH levels have been erratic and my dose has changed frequently. I recently changed PCPs; my new doc sent for me an ultrasound of the thyroid. The US showed several nodules on the thyroid. I have an appointment with an endocrinologist on Friday.

On Wednesday night, I am having a sleep study done to confirm sleep apnea. Thursday morning, I am attending the WLS surgery seminar. 2011 is turning out to be a year a positive change for me. New job, new home, investigating and resolving the medical issues that have been keep so fatigued all of the time, and (if my insurance approves) lap band surgery to finally get my weight to healthy level.

I thought I should spread the good word on this thread.

I went to my Bariatric Surgeon the other day.

I haven't been there for 12 weeks, so a 3 month weigh in,

and a Point 1 cc put in this 4cc band. So 2.76 in the band..

I weighed 288 in April, and this time 255. So YAY ! 33 Lbs. gone for good. (IT BETTER NOT COME BACK ! GRRRRR)

So just some news for us, and anyone else have any new news?

I'd love to hear some.

Shirley.

That's awesome Shirley! I am down about 20 pds. I have 3cc in my 10cc band and believe I am ready for a small fill, as I feel hungry after about 2 hrs. I called the doc's office today and find out my surgeon has left the practice. Now I am all stressed about my next fill appointment (August 16th) and the fact I have to get used to another doc. Seems like it is always something.

Also, my son is getting married the end of September in Las Vegas. I will be flying from NC to Vegas and was wondering what flight experiences any of you have had with the lapband.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
