No spleen and 3 week liquid before surgery

Recommended Posts

I'm new to the board and have a question to ask. Are there any others out there who have had their spleen removed and gone on to get banded? I have been approved by the insurance and have a surgery date set for the end of June, but must do the liquid diet for 3 weeks prior to surgery. Just wondering if there was anyone else in the same boat.

I haven't had anything done with my spleen but the diet isn't because of your spleen. Most surgeons require some sort of diet to shrink the liver to give them room to move around while operating. My doctor did not make me do any kind of a liquid diet because I did a high Protein diet before-hand and lost 23 lbs. This was all they needed to know I was serious and that my liver had shrank enough. Good Luck to you!

Mrs Beebies,

Thanks for answering. My spleen was actually taken out about 20 years ago for other reasons. I looked into lapband about a year and a half ago and went as far as the consult. Kind of got scared off when talking to the surgeon, who has done a couple thousand bands, told me because of the scar tissue from the spleen removal would make the surgery more difficult. And at that point he had only done a few with my issues. Found a new surgeon who has roughly 4000 bariatric surgeries to his credit and seems to have done a few more working around scar tissue. Going to go through with it this time, my screen name says it all. Was hoping to find someone who has been through it. Thanks.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
