I’m really sorry to be asking this question and I know it’s disgusting but I just don’t know where else to go to ask this. Because I have a big belly it seems to been rubbing just awful on my skin … I’m developing a sore (it’s just starting so it’s not too bad) where the flap comes down and hits my other skin …. I have been working out a lot and it seems to be moist in this area a lot, plus the warmer weather it just doesn’t seem to dry out. Should I be really concerned? Should I go to the doctor?

Hopefully someone here will have a suggestion for you but I'm thinking you might want to ask your doctor. It could be a yeast/fungal infection.

I would use a powder to keep you dry when you exercise. Not perfumed. Some people use just plain corn starch. You have to keep it dry or your skin will break down. You dont want that to happen. If your skin does break down and gets an open sore you should go to the doctor.

Ahh yes, that happens to me every once in awhile. What I do to clear it up if it is not an open sore is to keep it good and dry and after I shower and dried the area real well, I use some Destitin (or other baby butt ointment) to protect it. The Destitin also takes the soreness out of it. I also try to keep the area dry and use baby powder with cornstarch.

When you get out of the shower use your hair dryer and blow it dry do not wipe bc it can reopen the sore. If it has a "smell" use something like monostat( which you use normally for vaginal yeast infections). Put the cream on the clean sore area. If it doesn't get better be sure to go to the doctor. Also, have your dr keep a log of these type of infections bc I have heard that it will help with insurance f you need a panni!

Thanks for bringing up the blow dryer trick, I forgot about that one. Just don't let the blow dryer get to hot.

Zeazorb powder ... Use it everyday after you use the blow dryer ... Works wonders and it's OTC at Walmart or any pharmacy

do not use corn starch!!! If it is a yeast then corn starch will only be a food source for the fungus. Gold Bond usually is good... but make sure it's zinc based and not corn starch. I get the same problem under my breasts, and very occasionally under my belly skin too... When the powder doesn't do the trick I use monistat! Doctor prescribed an antifungal for it a couple of years ago that's just a stronger version of monistat... so I just buy the generic monistat and put it in those couple of areas after I shower (not so much in winter, powder is OK then, but as it gets warmer and there's more sweating I use the cream almost daily and it prevents the problem...)

I got chafed around my belly button last month, first time that has happened. I dried it out with alcohol, yeah it burned like hell, but I find it works really well. Before I discovered body glide for my thighs, I used to always chafe there and I always used alcohol to clear it up. Oh btw I mean rubbing alcohol, not the kind you drink, lol

I also recommend Zeazorb...it works great. Another thing, you should consider going to see your PCP, if nothing else, to document the problem. There are some people who have been able to get plastic surgery covered by their insurance due to having documentation of long term issues with sores or irritation caused by excess skin. Even though you aren't ready for it yet, it's never too early to start getting the problem documented...

For creams, I use athlete's foot when I get that type of soreness/rash under my boobs. It kills the yeasties.

Also, please don't feel bad about asking for help. It's not gross, it's a fact of life for so many of us-- and you're working to fix it. Good for you!

Wash with soap and dry the area well. I use an OTC ointment "Baza". It is a 2% Miconazole (antifungal) with a moisture barrier. A large tube runs around $15 (the last time I bought it) but it lasts for months.

I'm surprised no one knows about this one. Wash with soap and Water, then rinse and pat dry, do not rub. (OR USE THE DRYER)

The skin is also chafed (MY DR. TOLD ME THIS ONE) When your dry rub on NOXZEMA medicated skin cream. It's for chaffed skin..

End of the day repeat the whole process washing and all., continue until skin is healed, It should be gone in a few days.

Whenever I have a outbreak that's what I do. It works too.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
