avg. weight loss after the band

Recommended Posts

I lost weight for 6-8 weeks after surgery, then nothing! Nothing for about 10 months while the surgeon gave me fills attempting to get my band to the right restriction. I didn't gain any weight back, which was great but I stopped losing.

The last fill I received 3 weeks ago. My surgeon filled me using fluorscopy to get the fill to a safe maximum fill for me. Now I have restriction and I've started losing weight again, YAY!

My point is this, everyone's journey is different. When I looked at the weight others were losing, it was easy to get discouraged, and sometimes I did, But I hung in there and worked with my surgeon.

This is a process, not a race. We need to be careful when comparing ourselves to others.

Good luck with your process!

I was banded in Nov...not a very high BMI to begin with (just medical issues). Lost 35 lbs since surgery. another 15 pre-op. Only 11 lbs to go to meet my doctor's goal for me.. but I want to lose more. I have kicked up my exercise and started journaling with FitnessPal on my phone. I hope that helps me start losing again. Still I'm happy with the results...BamaMom

Every person who gets banded has a different journey. I was small for getting the band, so my weight loss has been slow. I was banded on March 22, 2011 at a BMI of 32. I wanted to lose a total of 50-60 pds. I am 4 weeks post op and have a lost a total of 17 pds. It is a daily choice to eat good foods (which I do not always do) and I can tell the next morning when I step on the scale and have either stayed the same or gained a pound. I have been working out many days a week and the slow loss can be frustrating. I am ready for a fill!! I have found that fills are EXPENSIVE. I was banded in Mexico so finding someone to do the fill can be challenging..

Daily?!? Let's see, I'm 8 days past surgery so... 1.275 pounds a day. Yeah, I'm sure it'll keep up at that rate ;) LOL!

It's still is a nice boost though, eh?

Hey everyone!....My surgery was done on 3/31/2011 and I have lost 20 lbs. since then, I'm going to weigh myself tomorrow to see how much i've lost but my weight loss slowed now that I have soft foods. I feel afraid that I won't lose anymore when I go back to solid foods, is there any advice anyone can give me on how to keep shedding inches and pounds post surgery?

So far I'm at about 3 pounds a week but it depends honestly on the day if I go up a little or if I lose some. I don't have a fill as of yet, first one is Wednesday.

I've averaged about a pound a week. It has been a slow weight loss, but a good one! I wouldn't trade it for any other kind of "diet". This is a lifestyle change and one I know I can live with!

Now that I have the right amount of restriction, I am losing 2-3# a week.

I am choosing high quality foods with only a very small amount of treats.

Hi Stef

I was also banded on 03/31. I have lost 22 lbs but I have noticied that it fluctuates. I have gained a few pounds back but I believe it is due to my cycle. I was afraid to start on regular foods because I didn't want the weight loss to stop. I have to remind myself that although I am back on soilds I am not eating half as much as I used to. I have no restriction in my band. I just stop eating I am never full just ok.

I was banded on March 25 and I lost 12 lbs preop and 26 post op so far. My bmi was over 40 when I started and now under 40. Yeah! I only obese now! I know it will slow down but I'm glad I'm getting a running start.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
