I don't have anything to add, but I read your thread and had to look twice to make sure i didn't post it. We have such similar screen names.

anyway, i'm not sure what they would do in that case, I would assume they could fix it and then maybe later do the surgery after it heals. I know my husband had one and they went in and repaired it. He didn't have the band though, as he's a skinny guy, but after it has time to heal, i don't see why they wouldn't just do the surgery. I have read in other places that sometimes they don't know you have one until they are putting the band in, so they repair it and then band you....i just don't know, but let us know how it turns out.

Haha that is funny...our screen names are almost the same. Anyway, doc said to do lap band after hernia repair would be too risky because of all of the scar tissue that would be in that general area. I'm thinking about the gastric bypass now.

Heard from dr's office today. I have a very large hiatal hernia that prevents getting a lap band. :( Suggestions anybody......thanks.

If you really want to get Lapband (gastric bypass is SO different) I would probably look for another surgeon. I had my hiatal hernia repaired the same

time I had my Lapband put in. In fact if I hadn't had the hernia I wouldn't have gotten the band because I was self pay and received a significant discount(I only paid for the band and insurance paid for anestesia, doctor's fees, etc.). I'm not sure how large yours is, but I would get a 2nd opinion.

Good luck!

I totally agree about the second opinion. I have been here daily for 3 years and time and time again read about both the hernia and band being done at the same time...including my own hernia repair and band reset.

You can do both, don't shortchange yourself w/o getting another qualified opinion.

Please keep posting as your story evolves.

Good luck, Mimi

A hiatal hernia does not prevent you from getting a lap band, they just fix it while they are on there. I had mine fixed as well as many other people on the board has had one

A hiatal hernia doesn't prevent surgery, I had mine repaired during the surgery. I would find a surgeon who will do both at the same time!

Yea, this guy doesn't seem on the up and up. My doctor fixed my hernia when he was operating. It's been the best thing ever, well other than the weight loss

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
