Nose Piercing and Surgery!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! Not sure if anyone has had experience with this, but I have my nose pierced. My surgery is scheduled for May 10th (yayy!) and I was wondering what the protocol was with piercings? I have a hoop in it now, but I can put a plastic retainer in it. The hole closes up really really quickly and I would hate to have to get it re-pierced again. Anyone know if the retainer will be allowed or if they'll remove that as well? It would be made totally of plastic.

Thanks everyone!

I would ask your surgeon what he or she thinks. I was told all piercings had to be removed, no questions asked.

While I am sure it depends on the surgeon, I don't think you will have a problem. I broke my wrist last year and when I went in for surgery they questioned it but let me keep my screw in when I explained the closer possibility. Not to mention trying to replace it with a broken wrist :)

My doctor was very strict about all piercings to come out. However my nose piercing must be cut out ( it is the one with the ball at the end). When I went for surgery I explained this and the nurses were not pleased but they let it pass.

After a few surgeries I got tired of struggling with other body piercings so I stopped taking them out too. Again the nurses were not pleased but I said unless the doc wants to put them back in for me after surgery they are staying in.

Since then they know what to expect and that I will have some piercings in me at surgery time. Of course they are no where near the surgery site, but if they were I would of course take them out.

Every doctor is different and if you explain what you can do ie plastic container instead of a earring, maybe they will let it pass.

It's unlikely you'll have to take them out completely. They have absolutely no impact on your surgery (nose piercings that is).

Replace it with Teflon or plastic and explain that you did that and you should be fine.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
