Dr called me and "slightly" changed my diet

Recommended Posts

So my doctor just called me to check up on how i have been. which i thought was very nice lol. & he asked if ive thrown up and been able to drink more than 4oz in an hour and i have been able to. I did mention my hunger pains when my stomach growls it hurts extreeeemllyyyy bad! So he said i can throw in some pureed stuff, anything thats not completly solid but more of a liquid form, im supposed to be on liquids for 2 weeks and im only 3 days post op. He said i can have chicken noodle Soup as long as the noodles are soft. I know its best to leave it up to doctor and follow his rules i juts was wondering if anyone else was able to consume noodles at only 3 days post op. and chicken noodle soup noodles are VERY VERY soft they mash up in my mouth very easy.

Every doctor's diet requirements are different, mine said no noodles or pastas for 8 weeks. However the dietician said in the class a few days before surgery that I could puree the noodles in chicken noodle Soup and it'd be okay. That was my third or fourth day post-op. Be careful with chewing, because last night I noticed while I was trying to really concentrate on chewing my scrambled eggs that I was unintentionally swallowing some good chunks of it. Luckilly I didn't have any issues but it's something to pay attention to. Hope all is well with your recovery!

I was supposed to be on full liquids for a week post op but started musies around 3 days becuse I am a very bad patient. I htink I even had some ham (which I did not chew well enough and it came back up)....but yes I did ok with soft foods. I would of course suggest doing what your doc recommends. :)

I was only on liquids for a day and then pureed foods for 2 weeks. I was then allowed to introduce real food week 3. All doctors are different and if he's happy with your progress and you're allowed chicken noodles Soup, (yum) then I wouldn't argue with him. :)

Yep, I was able to eat the noodles in chicken noodle soup at day 3 too. I'm on Day 5 - and my doctor gave me a general guideline but said by day 5 I could start on mushies and go like that for three weeks.

I guess I'm a pretty bad patient as well. I've had mashed potatoes, pintos and cheese, moist turkey meatballs, scrambled eggs, and a regular banana and I'm showing no ill effects at all. I see him on Tuesday for my first follow up since surgery but I don't think he's going to be unhappy.

Like you, I couldn't handle the hunger pains, it was terrible! But I'm not eating pizza or a steak or anything ;)

I had been prepared to move on to mushies after my one week post-op appointment, but my doctor OK'd soft solids (fish, moist shredded chicken, etc.) at that time. I was eating a pretty normal diet by about three weeks post-op, though I did choose to avoid things I thought might be tough for me (steak, fibrous veggies/fruits, etc.) for a while just to be on the safe side.

Every doctor is different. I had to do 2 weeks liquid after surgery, then 2 weeks mushy (which I'm on right now) and starting Wednesday i can SLOWLY introduce things like ground meat, low fat ravioli's, hot cereals. I had chicken noodle Soup about a week and a half after surgery and it was because I was starving! Just chew REALLY well and you should be fine.

I am on day 5 and feeling the same as you....I have introduced home made chicken noodle Soup, very mashed up chicken salad, tuna salad, and egg salad, as well as cream of wheat and have had zero issues. I cannot believe how quickly I feel full though. I am still a bit shaky though and not sure if thats my body adjusting to the calorie intake or the anesthesia. Since I was a MEGA fountain soda (addicted badly) I switched to unsweetened ice tea or Water. I am afraid to drink the fruit juices because of the calories. I see the doc this thursday. I feel like my belly looks bigger now then it did before surgery, I sure hope that is due to swelling cause I am really freaking out about it. The pants I was wearing prior to surgery were loose and now they fit normal :(

I am looking forward to my 1 month anniversary when I can sit down and eat dinner with my family. This making two separate meals is very annoying, but I understand is necessary. I miss my chicken kabobs off the grill and that with baked Beans is going to be my first real meal with my family :)

I keep feeling a slight tightness in my esophagas so I am not ready to try noodles yet even though I am starving. I swear my stomach rumbled for a whole min yesterday. It also hurts to burp. I don't think i am getting the Protein I need though. I have been trying to drink my Atkins drinks and milk with Protein powder as much as I can.

I ate some chicken noodle Soup unblended but I mushed the noodles up and chewed really good to were it wpuldve got thru a straw. It filled me up so fast and I can't explain how delicious it was. I may add some mashed potatoe soup today it's thicker than the chicken noodle but I'm going to try and make it more liquidy this time. The hunger pains are sooo bad if I'm standing the growling will make me shaky and light headed so I have to have something in my stomach. I am watching my calories and drinking 3 Protein Shakes a day with lots of Water and dr said crystal light was fine

If your doctor cleared it, you are good to go!

Beware of bananas, they still get stuck for me! ohmy.gif And some folk have trouble with eggs (I don't!).

I was to be on clears for a week but was moved to full liquids at 3 days when my surgeon called to check on me. I told him I was ready to eat my dog I was so hungry. He said he was an animal lover and would prefer I have some oatmeal than consume my beasty!

Mashed potatoes never tasted so goooooood!

Congrats on being on the losers' bench!

I'm just scared of stretching my stomach from eating mushies to soon. Is that possible I never have more than 2-3oz of food at a time even though I could eat alot more I'm limiting myself to only that

In the beginning I also hurt anytime that I burped or took a deep breath. I had those pains through my 6th day. I am now 12 days post op and pain free YEAH!!!!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
