Surgery in two days 3/21/11 and so scared:(

Recommended Posts

I am getting banded on Tuesday 3/22! I am so excited! I am so excited that I dont think I will get nervous, but this is the way I look at it... I have choose to take this step for the reason that I need to be healthy and I would like to have children one day, so I have to much good to look forward to to even think about being nervous! As far as the anestesia(sp) they do this day in and day out, so there is nothing to be afraid of... I look at it like its my saving grace, because without it I would either feel more than I would ever desire or obviously not get to do this in the first place!! I guess I just always look at the bright side of things.... if you dewell on the negative it scares the hell out of you and brings you down! so just think of all the good reasons that you are going through this and it will make you smile and forget all about the scary things!!

Good Luck to you!!!

I'm sorry Shirley, but I had to laugh when you said "give me my clothes I am leaving":) I can see myself in the EXACT same situation with my husband tomorrow. Thanks for your kind and encouraging words. It makes people going through this feel a little less crazy.

Glad you got a laugh out of it. Because I was scared !, and all for nothing. So don't worry, it will be over before you know it.

i got very nervous on the trip up to the hospital. i got there and they wer rushing me to change. asked me if a nurse had called me about a cancellation. I said no and she told me to do this and that and they were waiting for me. I had no time to get nervous or say no before they were wheeling me down the hall giving me a little cocktail to calm me down. i remember the ride in the elevator and dont remember getting off. i woke up in recovery groggy and ready to see my husband. i had to stay over night so i had time to wake up and begin walking my laps in the hall. my recovery went well. i am really pleased everything that has happened.

God Bless your journey!:D

Just wondering if anyone else out there is getting banded on 3/21..which is only two days away. I have been an emotional roller coaster and am so scared of going under general anesthesia. The sad thing is I see people EVERY day get intubated and go under general anesthesia and they have ALL been fine. I'm just starting to fear that I will cry and freak out once I get to the surgery center. I want this more than anything and have been very compliant with my 7 day high Protein low carb diet (down 6.2 pounds). Just need to know if I am the only one out there who is scared and super emotional.

I was banded on 2/24 and I was the same way before surgery. I have a horrible fear of needles and just knowing that I was going to have an IV was bad enough. When I was laying there being preped for surgery I was so nervous that I was literally shaking in the bed and my entire body was stiff as a board. If you ask me, it's normal to be scared. I barely slept the night before my surgery, and of course I had the last minute thoughts of "am I doing the right thing". Post-op was a bit rough, but I started feeling normal again around day 6. I'm sure you did just fine! Let us know how you did...

Hope everything went well for you guys that had surgery today and yesterday! I was a nervous wreck the night before my surgery I only ended up sleeping 3 hours and now it's a week later and I'm still in disbelief that it's happened. I hope everything went well!!

Isn't it amazing that we are all so scared to death. Even though it's only a Band going on.

I can see, and understand if it were bypass... (I WOULD GET UP AND LEAVE)

But all in all, it really isn't that bad.

What would you say to help out the anxiety, and nervous of those getting ready to be Banded.

Thanks everyone for there encouragement and support for my surgery. I couldn't have asked for a better group of people to take care of me on my "big day". To all those about to embark on this journey it's scary, but I can say I came through with flying colors:) So glad to be a banster now:)

Thanks! I am doing pretty good! I was really sore the first 2 days mostly on the left side where my port is. I am now able to get up without near as much pain just enough to remember that I had surgery on Tuesday! lol I am pretty impressed with how quick I have began to feel better, at the hospital I was scared it was going to be a long road to recovery! But once I got home and rested somemore things started to fall into place and I started to feel better! I have been very lucky and have not experienced any naseua(sp), just a little pain when I try to get the gas out via belching after i belch it hurts alittle but if i let out the air slowly its not so bad. I am only taking my pain meds at night to sleep or if walking isnt helpiing the pain on the left side which was once since Tuesday... Everyday seems to get better with the exception of yesterday, I think it has to do with the night before I tried to go to class and that was a little to much for me so my friend brought me back home, so yesterday I got a little woosy, I think I just over did it a little to much the day before. Overall I am stoked that I have done this and with the success I have seen so far! I have lost a total of 10lbs and 6 of that since Tuesday! I can't wait to see where I ended up!! Thank you for checking up and asking about me I appreciate it! I just makes anyone feel good to know that someone is thinking of them. Good luck to everyeone and remember We CAN and we WILL do it!!!

:( I am getting banded on 3/28/11 and I am going threw the same roller coaster! I go from yes to no. I have to have hernia repair done too. I feel I will have to be off too long etc..

But I have got tremendous support from here.. I feel it is normal, my fear is I might not wake up!!! but, I am learning thru here that it will be just fine.

So Relax and take a deep breath and we are here to listen.

I had 2 lymph nodes removed in the GROIN. (DR. THOUGHT THEY WERE CANCEROUS,, THEY WERE NOT.), Hernia Repair, and then he did the Band.

I spent 3 hrs. on the table, and 30 minutes to do the band.

That's why I say the band is nothing to worry about. It's just a Band.

Now the GROIN,,, that was sore for a while...

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
