The Two Bowls of Cereal a Day Diet

I was reading a magazine and there was a woman in it that had lost 125 pounds in a year by eating two bowls of shredded wheat with milk for two meals a day, and eating a balanced meal for the third meal. I thought to myself- that sounds too good to be true...so, today I'm trying it. I need more Fiber anyway, and shredded wheat actually has some Protein in it.

But, I knew that if I was going to eat Cereal it wouldn't stick with me very long, so I decided that I would need Snacks. So, If I need a snack I am going to eat either fruit or veggies. That way I can get in those, too.

Today is day #1, and I was surprised at how full the cereal made me at Breakfast. We'll see how it tides me over at lunch. I'll keep you posted.

Has anyone else tried this?

Megan

i don't mean to sound like a downer or a cynic, but if i could have "worked" this type of "diet" or "program" before the band, i wouldn't be where i am now, in my opinion. like atkins, the grapefruit diet, whatever, it's virtually impossible to stick to one or two foods all day and expect to stay sane. i really hope you do well and wish you a ton of luck, but like i said, if this was doable for me before, i sure wouldn't be fat and banded now. :)

Has any tryed ( KASHI ) go lean crunch Protein Cereal 9g Fiber 8g soy protein 6.25 very very good breakfast with trail mix or in your yorgurt,

being banded has any tryed egg beater's very low calorie breakfast one cup is a plate size omelet 100 calorie's.

what ever you do "I hope it works.good luck.

ps every other day I skip one meal with high protein slimfast and try to eat one meal even if its only 3 oz of meat a day. just for my hair. and I try to eat 5 or 6 time's aday every three hours some thing healthy!!!

small amount.

i have to say i LOVE the kashi...i used to make these EVIL kashi goo balls! (ruined a perfectly healthy cereal) kashi, peanut butter, honey, and bag o chocolate chips. mix together to make a big sticky mess and roll into balls, refridgerate and chow down. ahhhh that was good a kashi flashback!

sometimes thoes big health full of oats, rasins, and dates.. get to much to chew.. just a bowl of simple cereal will do... but again i will probably eat the whole box...

Megan I hope everything is working out for you...

I've often wondered though, whether being banded, it's more realistic to use this type of diet to get a bit of weight off quickly, or when you've stalled. Because unlike an unbanded person who does this sort of thing, you're not likely to stack it all back on with interest are you?

I mean, you cant live on 2 bowls of cereal a day forever but if it blasts away a few lbs why not?

This stuff is great! It is one of the few things that keeps me full for a while!

I read about that too, and it's very simple. If you count the calories in the cereal and milk plus a small meal, you're caloric intake is pretty low. It's all about calories. Any diet works if you stick to it. It's the sticking to it that's killing me! Damn, now I want a bowl of cereal with berries!

Kashi is naughty. Is it supposed to be healthy, cause it's yummy! Like goodies to me :)

Thanks, Shelli. Now I gotta think about goo balls all day! That's okay, I'll just have a tub of delicious Water instead. Ug.

Hey guys. I think it's great to read all the different perspectives. I'll weigh in on Monday, so for now I don't know if it is working or not. My head feels lighter- which is were I always feel weight loss first. Isn't that weird? And I've had people tell me I look smaller again.

It's not the easiest thing to do...there are so many temptations- especially at lunch time. SO, today I am going to lunch with some girls from work and I'll eat a normal lunch, and then I'll just have cereal for dinner.

I am finding that I crave Protein in the afternoon. So instead of a piece of fruit I am eating some lunch meat or some cheese and that is working ok. I do think I was less hungry when I was eating cottage cheese in the mornings so maybe I'll try another experiment with that in a week or two. I just want to get the scale moving again, for Pete's sake.

I thought the same thing when I saw the subject of this thread. This seems to me like a fad diet. It's something you do for a short time to get some weight off quick. It's not something you can maintain. And I don't know about you guys, but that's how I got into this boat in the first place. Diet after diet, each time thinking "ok, THIS one is going to work." I don't see how this cereal thing is any different from the Slim Fast "two shakes a day and a sensible dinner" plan.

I find it interesting that the magazine is so careful to point out that those people lost weight without surgery (read: "the easy way") but sees nothing wrong with praising people who went with some ill-advised, unbalanced diet instead.

Just my $0.02.

Yes....cottage cheese seems to be the ONLY Protein thing I can have in the mornings that ties me over to lunch. eggs...nope. Can of tuna....nope. Weird huh? I wouldn't live without the cottage cheese! Half cup of the stuff of the lo fat kind (that little bit o' fat helps...the no fat kind wasn't working) has 100 calories and 14 grams of protein. That's a pretty good protein payoff.
