Knee Problems

Recommended Posts

So I am still on the pre-op diet and am getting into the exercising. My issue is that my knee which has never given me any problems before keeps getting stiff and sore and it pops the whole time I walk. This is the biggest I have ever been and since I have never had problems I am assuming that the weight is the issue. I don't want to mess my knee up for life...so does anyone know what I should do to baby my knee until I loose more weight and there is not so much pressure on it?

I know how you feel one of the main reasons I woke up and had the surgery is I was having a hell of a time with my left knee. Take it slow, if you have access to a pool do Water aerobics instead of jogging/running as that will take some off your knee. Also as you loose weight you will notice that the knee will get stronger. Dont do squats or lunges as those can really mess up a weak knee. Go to a sports store or a ortho doc if you have access let them tell you the kind of knee brace that would help you while the pounds come off. I picked up a jumper's brace as my biggest issue was my knee cap felt like it wanted to slide out of socket when I walked/jogged and this holds it in place.

Just don't ignore it, the last thing you want to do is mess up your knee and cause you any setbacks.

Hi Sombra! I have an issue with only one of my knees also which has made it hard to walk on the treadmill at times. I took my first Water aerobics class ever and I loved it!! You still get a great workout but without all the pounding on your joints. Swimming laps is also a great cardio exercise. You may want to think about asking one of the trainers at your gym if they could recommend some strengthening exercises for you as well. Good luck with everything!

Yes swimming does sound like the answer now...I will have to find an indoor pool. I used to be a competitve swimmer when I was younger and can't wait to swim like that again. Thanks for the help guys.

You should also get it checked by a doctor. Yes, it could be your weight, but my knee started hurting on and off and I ignored it for 2 months, then one day it became very painful to walk on it, found out it was patella tendinitis (inflammation of the patella tendon.). 2 weeks of NSAIDs (before surgery) cleared it up

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
