Pre-approval frustration

Recommended Posts

Was told after all my appointments that doc's office will submit papers to insurance on Monday 24th. If more papers required - would know this week. If approved next week.

Today is Thursday. I am hopping it is a YES... Just in case something is missing and to expedite the process I called my insurance. They never got a call from my doctor ... AHH!?!?!

Called my doc's office - the 'right' person was not available. Through the message from the third person I was told I will be contacted when they have any news. AHH!?

Have anyone called their insurance directly while waiting for the approval?

I need to get my mind off this... every time I think about it - I get hungry.

Thankfully I didn't have to contact my insurance company. But I've heard others on here say they called the insurance company everyday until they got an answer...

I personally harassed my insurance company and had an approval within 2 weeks and that included time for them to deny me once.... GOOD LUCK Don't give up call at least twice a day and make sure you write down who you talk to and what time and day you called.

The irony is my Insurance person was very nice. I can not reach the person at the doctor's office. And the doctor's office never submitted the papers. Anyone had the same issue with NYU office?

Insurance person i spoke with was very helpfull, to get the process she got basic info from me and set up a case to start the ball rolling. But they need all the forms from the doctor.

I feel like going to the doctor's office, getting the copy of my file, and faxing it myself <_<

I'm from Nebraska, but I had issues with my stuff not being submitted to my insurance. Whenever I called the surgeon's office to talk to the person who took care of submitting papers, I would leave 1 message a day for 2 days and never get a return call. I would say something to the receptionist about not getting my calls returned, but it did no good, so then I would just call every hour until I was able to speak to the right person. I was told that my file was sent to my insurance on Sept. 9 2010, My insurance has a 30 approval time, so I called the office Oct. 6, 2010 to see if they had heard from my insurance, and she said that they hadn't. So I called my insurance the next day and surprise, surprise, they just received my paperwork the 6th! So I assume that the surgeon's office didn't even fax it until that day, I was pretty angry. I was FINALLY approved on October 25, 2010 and had surgery November 29th. It can be such a frustrating process, but it is definately worth it :)

Something tells me that the surgeons office knows which insurance companies are harder than others ton get through. They put those on the front burner. The easy ones go on the back...to wait to be scheduled when the doctor is more flexible. I was told a week ago that my paperwork was submitted and it would take 5-10 business days. I've heard of some people getting an answer the SAME DAY. They don't know that I know this, so I called insurance 4days ago, and they said they hadn't gotten any paperwork :-/ go figure. I'm being patient tho, I may have to wait til March for surgery because of vacations on the job...

Today is day 8 after I have completed all of my doctor's requirements for the surgery.

Today is day 4 after the day my doc's surgery coordinator should of submitted my papers to the Insurance for approval.

As of 3pm today - Insurance received nothing. I still can not reach the 'right' person at the doctor's office to find out why.

Doctor is on vacation second half of Feb, and I have to have 2 weeks of pre-op diet... That means February surgery is most likely out of the question. :(

I now understand why NYU docs require psyche evaluation from all patients - they don't want us to go mental on them from all that delays.:blink:

I called everyday to check the status!! Insurance knows you are anxious and are pretty good about giving you updates!! You're not bugging them.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
