I love my mom and I know she loves me very much. I told her again today how her words make me feel. She replied with saying how I always told her I was overweight. But she understood that she stepped outside of her boundaries. She didn't apologize but she did tell me that she loves me very much and she lives for me and my two brothers. She said that everything she's ever done in her life was for us. She said that she lives and breathes for me and loves me greatly. I don't think she will bring up my weight in a negative manner again. I could never cut my mother out of my life. I agree with the user who said something about her saying things like this for me to try and and lose weight, but it's just the opposite. It makes me sad and frustrated and makes me wanted to bake cupcakes! I told her how she always complained about my weight and I could tell she felt remorse. I know that deep down she wants me to be a healthy and beautiful individual. Sometimes, our emotions get the best of us. She's said many beautiful and loving words to me and has been very supportive, however like I said in an earlier post, these are the words I'll never forget she said. I'll forgive her though.

This breaks my heart to read I have three of the worlds greatest, most beautiful daughters, one of whom is going to have lapband surgery too. I believe strongly that we must tell our kids, especially our media influenced daughters, everyday how beautiful they are. My daughter that is going to have surgery has never let her weight hold her back, she always played sports and is very outgoing and popular. It sounds to me like you have tried not to let your mother's negative comments hold you back and for that you have proven you have the strength to succeed in whatever you choose to do. Hang in there and stay strong. You are beautiful.....period! Not, "you have a pretty face." Good luck to you!

Oh my! I'm so sorry to hear this is what you've had to listen to your whole life! I'm the only obese person in my family. In fact, I have 3 gorgeous, thin, talented younger sisters, and 2 handsome an cute younger brothers, none of which struggle with weight by any stretch of the imagination. This js true of my entire family; aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. They could eat anything they wanted all day long and suffer no consequences. All I ever want to do is go shopping with my sisters and buy stuff from the same stores but my family is so so supportive and never put me down for my weight. I can't imagine what I'd be like today had I not had the positive support of my family. I went through a period as a child where my step mom would make underhanded comments about/towards me and it really made me feel bad. I'd go cry to my mom about it all the time, but that was put to an end and my relationship with my step mom is great! Just know that we're all beautiful.. You don't have to be thin to be beautiful. Thank you to all. It was really hard to write this. I've told her how i felt before, but I don't think she means to hurt my feelings. They just come out of her mouth without her thinking how it would effect others. I'm 21 years old, I live at home and go to college. My insurance is through my dad. I cannot wait for the day to come where I graduate college and can support my self. I don't need to be belittled like this, especially when I'm still healing from surgery and about to start classes Monday. It's just these are the words that I will never forget she said...

You should never vomit with the band. After surgery, they give you meds to make sure you don't vomit. Once you're home and eating again, there's a possibility you could PB but again, you should never vomit. Vomiting from the band is NOT normal and can lead to slips.
PBing, or Productive Burping, is very different than vomiting. Vomiting is forceful and violent, PBing is gentle. It's literally just burping up whatever food is stuck without force. Very, very different than vomiting.
With that said, I really think you'll be fine.

I don't know if this will help, and sorry if it is too graphic, but post surgery, vomitting from being stuck is not like the vomitting you have done in the past. I was like you and would cry when I vomitted, and I hardly ever cry. Since surgery though, it really isn't the same, and I don't want to go into too much detail, but if you chew, chew, chew and eat really slow, you should not have any issues. Also if you get ill with a stomach bug and feel the need to vomit, you should get ahold of your doctor asap and get an anti naseau medicine. They work really well, and a lot of us banders have them on hand Good luck to you!

I can't feel mine either. Don't care as long as Dr. can find it. I sure don't want to have to worry about bumping it ..I think it is still underneath a lot of fat.

It is very normal I have been able to feel mine since I was about a week post op. On the plus side, it should be easier when you go in for a fill Good luck to you!

Ok I know i'm gonna get some slack for this but it's just a pet peeve of my own...people are always asking how much is in their band and it's totally irrelevant to anyone but that person...2cc's in my band doesn't mean 2cc's in someone else band means the same thing or yields the same results...I think people get so obsessed with how many cc's they have compared to other people they loose site of the real picture...ok now back to our regularly scheduled program...lol!(bring on the slack...lol) hope I didn't offend anyone.

OMG OMG OMG~~~!!!!!! I stepped on the scale this morning and guess what!!???!!! I weighed in the 130s for the first time since high school (20 years ago)!!!! I CANNOT BELIEVE IT! it's surreal and too good to be true. I LOVE MY BAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I could be wrong, but if you're not hungry or thinking about food, then it sounds like you do have restriction.
Restriction with the band doesn't literally restrict what you eat or stop you from eating, nor is it supposed to make you feel stuffed full. It makes you satisfied with less food for longer time periods, which sounds like what you are describing.
Before I had restriction, I was eating 1100-1200 calories a day. Since my last fill in May, I usually only eat around 900 calories a day, sometimes even less. My surgeon said quite simply- if you're not hungry don't eat. It's ok if you're getting less calories as long as the food you are eating is healthy and you're not hungry.

Thanks muelle that is very motivating especially since you got to your goal so quickly.
I think I will just be sensible about it. Maybe a Protein shake or 2 each day and healthy meats, fruits and veggies.

Muelle: Yeah that is weird considering I was going to get it done when my mom got her's done last year when I was 18 around April/May. PLEASE NO ONE HATE ME FOR WHAT I'M ABOUT TO SAY. I was approved for surgery, cheated through my pre-op and canceled the day before surgery. I was so scared and my sister (who has ALWAYS been small) started bashing me and saying how I was taking the eay way out and our mom is older so she needs it but not me so I didn't go through with it. But now I am doing it for ME! The only people who know about it though are God, ya'll, my parents, my manager, my primary care physician and the team member health nurse at my job. I don't even think I'm telling my bestie who I tell EVERYTHING to. But I know what I need to do and I'm happy about it

Your story sounds so similar to mine and my daughters that I had to make sure you weren't her I was banded a year and a half ago and gave my daughter the option to start the process so she could be banded when she turned 18. At the time she didn't want to, but after seeing me lose over 100 pounds she decided it was for her. She just finished her 6 month supervised diet and has the psych evaluation left, then time to submit for approval. You sound very motivated and that is so important. Hate to burst anyones bubble but................. I was never lactose intolerant until I was banded.... but I will take that vs. diabetes, high blood pressure reflux and asthma. so for me it's a small price to pay ... Besides I like soy milk now but it does cramp me and who needs ice cream LOL

I have seen many different recommendations from surgeons on here, so above all, check with your surgeon. I have seen some posts that say none for 6 months and some say none for a year. I waited almost a year, except for communion My tolerance was very low for awhile, but I have never been a big drinker. Stay away from carbonation and drink a glass of water with every alcoholic drink you have. My favorite is a bloody mary. Good luck to you on your journey!

From day one my surgeon said, "Don't eat if you are not hungry." Well I lost all hunger sensation after having surgery, so I ate very very little. At my one month post op check I told him I was never hungry and only ate once every other day, but was taking vitamins. He told me as long as I wasn't having nutrition issues, like hair loss and other types of poor nutrition symptoms, that I could continue this. I hit my goal weight at nine or ten months post op following this. I never felt like I was being deprived and if I wanted a cookie, I ate a cookie So long story short, I agree that the starvation mode phrase gets overused on this site. When I joined it a year and a half ago, a post like this would have been shunned and some people would have really been upset by this, but it seems to me that more surgeons are starting to give the advice my surgeon gave all along I am not advocating for people to not eat, follow what your surgeon tells you please. I don't want anyone to take what I am saying as medical advice.....it's not, it's just my personal experience. Good luck to everyone with your journeys!

There is a great article that was written by Dr. Simpson about restriction in banded people. Basically he says that banded people do not go into starvation mode or metabolic syndrome because our pouch allows the hormone that regulates satiety in our stomach to be stimulated quickly since it is in the upper part of the stomach. So your brain is fooled when you eat very little because the hormone is stimulated as if you ate enough to fill your entire stomach, therefore since the brain is fooled,
" starvation mode" does not kick in for bandsters. Here is the link. Very interesting!
