Just banded and really suffering!

Hi Everyone~~

I am so thankful for a forum to talk to so many people! I was banded on Jan 27th, my surgeon assured me I would be discharged home within a few hours on liquid tylenol.......no such luck! I had a terrible time in recovery, stayed for six hours while they tried to stabilize my blood pressure...I was in so much pain post op, but they could not give me anything becuase my BP was so low.....I feel like I am a good two days behind on recovery, still having alot of gas pain and burning in the left upper abdomen....I was told I could go back to work within four days....no way that is going to happen! I was just wondering when everyone started to have relief from the post op pain and gas pains?...Thanks

I was just banded on Monday, Jan. 17th. Postop in the hospital went well for me. I was out of recovery around 1 pm, released to the floor and released home around 4 pm. The first couple of days were not any fun and my thoughts of being up and doing household things did not pan out. I finally got out of the house on Saturday even if it was only to go to the grocery store with the kids. Today, I feel much better than even yesterday, but I still have pain at the port site and also a lot of gas. Sometimes I feel like the gas is now from not having much in my stomach, but I could be wrong. I'm sorry that your hospital postop didn't go quite how you wanted. Hopefully, you will start feeling better quickly. Good luck.

I'm sorry you're feeling so bad. I would contact the surgeon and request something a little more powerful for the pain. My surgeon prescribed liquid Vicodin for me, and I'm so glad he did. (I had surgery on 10/27/10). I had quite a bit of pain the first few days, and even began to regret having the procedure. Of course, 2 and half months down the road, I'm feeling great and have lost 30 lbs. Hang in there!!

Hello, I am new to this site. I had my lapband surgery on January 3, 2011 and I'm so happy. Yes, I was in pain with the gas. Plus I had hiatal hernia surgery (swelling in the esophagus above the stomach). So, I had twice the pain. I was discharged with liquid tylenol with codeine. I don't use it much. But, only when I have gas pain which is starting back up. Anyone, have the same thing? To the newbie person it's going to be painful for at least 2 to 3 weeks. I still have some pain in my side and in my chest. Good luck to you!!!

Hang in there, life does get better!!! I was banded Dec. 29th and stayed in the hospital for the night (Dr.'s gave me the option) Went home with pain in my port area. I really tought I was going to go back to work in a week but my port inscision got infected from inside and that caused a lot of pain. Went to see the Dr. and he prescribe atibiotics. I had to take a week and a half off work. I am now close to four weeks post op and I feel great. I lost 28 pounds and feel great. Don't worry, the pain will go away and pretty soon you'll be doing your normal things. Make sure you drink your Protein because that's going to help you heal.

I found the first 5 days to be horrible.. I too had a same day discharge.. Day one and two I barely remember because I was taking Percocet around the clock ever 4 to 6 hrs...Only getting up for sips of liquid... Day 3 and 4 were painful but I started to move more.. By day 5 I felt pretty good... BE CAREFUL around day 7.. I felt so good I didnt listen to my surgeon and started to do too much around the house and got severe pain for a day... I think I may have popped a stitch internally.... I am one of the lucky ones in that I was able to get my surgeon to keep me out of work 6 weeks. I do lifting at work. I am now 4 weeks post op and still occasionally get left shoulder pain.. There is no way I could have gone back to work in 4 or 5 days... Ask for atleast 2 or 3 weeks because it is about there you will feel stronger, mentally better and physically better. GOOD LUCK.. and hang tough.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
