Recovery Question...

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I'm new here, but have been reading the boards for awhile now. I was banded on Dec. 27th (3 days ago!) and I'm curious, how long does it take for the incisions to start to heal. It's so hard for me to get up and down off the couch, etc... I'm guessing it's my muscles healing.

Thanks for your help!

Everyone heals at their own pace, but certainly by a week out you should see substantial healing of all the incisions. No muscles were cut in your surgery, but everything in your abdomen was a bit traumatized and it will take a few days to recover.

I've heard lots of people say the third day out is the worst. Hang in there, you're almost around the corner!!

A good week for me too, but the pings and pangs lasted a few weeks.

Go slow and be gentle with yourself.

Hugs and Welcome to bandland :)

My incisions looked great from day one. I had no staples or regular stitches though. I had internal stitches and steri strips. Physically I felt horrid on day 3 and after that each day was better. By the end of the first week I was almost back to normal.

I was sore and tired for the first week. I was able to sleep during the day, naps here and there, I did walk three times a day. They were not long walks, I walked my dog around my block and walked my son to the bus. I did not have gas pains so that helped a lot. I was driving a week after surgery, but was able to stop pain meds five days post op.

A total of two weeks for me if I remember correctly. This is when they all had perfect little scabs & I could actually use my muscles to get up & down more than my arms. You'll get there, I promise. Congrats to your new life. Follow the guidlines please.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
