Pre Op Jitters

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I am new to the site, and I am glad I chose to be here. I am on my first day of liquid diet, not having that much of a hard time with it yet. But I keep going back and forth with it,and wondering if this is the right choice for me. I have been overweight for quite sometime, and I know I want this procedure, I think reading some of the blogs have calmed my nerves a bit. So I will get up tomorrow for day 2 with a better outlook on the surgery. Thanks for this site.

Signed first day jitters.:)

Stick with it -- it is really worth it and so are you! Make sure you have Protein Drinks for your liquids and remember you are doing this so that you can feel better for the rest of your life! It is an exciting time -- the surgery is really no big deal - I had it 2 weeks ago and feeling good -- already lost 8 pounds and feeling more in control of my life and encouraged that I can actually do this for the first time in years. I know that the liquid diet can be hard but it is worth it and you will be happier for having taken control. Hang in there and good luck!

I had my surgery Nov 10th after 9 months of jumping through all the required hoops. So far I am so happy with my decision and the liquid diet was the toughest part so far. I was quite tense and requested some Xanax from my primary doctor to make it through the toughest phase and he was happy to help me out and understood the psychological issues coupled with the hunger. Stick with it and just know that you are making probably the best decision of your life.

I too was nervous. But I am so amazed at how much better I feel already. My blood pressure has gone down tremendously, I'm sure my BP meds will have to be lessened if not gone soon! With the weight 3 lbs I lost before I started the liquid diet, plus the weight lost on liquid diet, and the weight this first week and am down a total of 30 lbs from my all time high! To me that already seems like a miracle!!!

The liquid diet isn't that bad. I did feel hungry at times, but would drink some Crystal light or have a mug of low sodium chicken or beef broth. That helped me alot! It kinda helped my stomach get used to not being stuffed all the time. I actually got to feel what it feels like to feel hunger. And I think with our new lifestyle that is an important thing we need to be able to feel.

I wish you all the best. You'll be glad you did it. And one of the great things is our anatomy is not being altered. So down the road if you decide you don't want it, it can be removed! (That part kinda eased my mind a bit! :)

Hello All,

I want to start by saying thank you for all the encouraging words, after reading your blogs I really feel good . I just said I have come so far with all the testing and appointments that I can't give up now, and yes those shakes are ugh, but I drink and don't think about it.

And I forgot that we can drink Crystal Light, I have been wanting something other than Water. But again thank you so much for lifting my spirits about the surgery.

I can continue on my journey, I have 4 more days left until the big day. Thanks a bunch!!

First day jitters going away.

Look, Pat! There's already movement on your ticker! That's a good enough reason to continue, right?

I got really nervous when I started the pre-op diet, and spent a while wondering if "I should really do this." I thought about it for a while and decided that it was my fear of letting go of something I've been hiding behind. Either that, or it's just such a MAJOR life changing decision. I remember my first thought when I found out I was pregnant with my first child (we had been trying), was "omg, can I really do this? Am I ready for this?" And of course it was the best thing I ever did.

Best wishes,

Deb

Pat you will be so happy with your decision. I guess I got lucky because my surgeon didn't require a long pre-op diet. I only had a week to do it and then had surgery. I got nervous but this was something I have been wanting to do for a long time. I was tired of feeling bad all the time. Tired of feeling uncomfortable with myself. It was the best thing I have done for myself.

Good luck and keep us posted on your success!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
