Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum. I am scheduled for my band on Dec. 8th. I start a full liquid diet on 12/1 and then again for 2 weeks post-op. I'm nervous, but excited. I'm so tired of failing where my weight is concerned. I hope this will help me control myself and my portions. I look forward to sharing this journey with you. No one will understand the ups and downs the way fellow bandsters can!

Very Disappointed, I am extremely disappointed. Went to my PCP today, to discuss the Band, and she said, she would not recommend it because she thinks I need the Bypass. Her rationale was that she's seen to many patience not lose enough and that technically, at 315, I would need to loose around 150 and that's not realistic on the band. I am upset because I read so many of the success stories and it seems the norm. Maybe I'm kidding myself, but I was really excited and now that carries a heavy weight on my decision.

Has anyone else Doctor advised of this?

no as a matter of fact i need to lose more than that and my doctor said that the band will work for me if I follow his direction to a tee!

Maybe you need a second opinion?

When I met with the nutritionist she said that she thought I should seriously consider bypass or gastric sleeve because of the amount of weight I need to lose (about the same as you need to lose). I told her that I had given this a lot of thought and had done the research and felt very confident that I was making the right decision for me. She seemed to accept that and it hasn't been an issue...

That said, I know that I will have to work hard at this because of the amount of weight I need to lose...the Lap-Band isn't a magic bullet but I really think that it will be the right tool for me to help change my habits. In the end, it is a personal decision that only you can make.

Thanks Vicky, your advice helps but I have been pretty bum'd about the news.

I am having my surgery in December also. I was originally set for the 3rd but they may have to r/s me to the 10th. Either way, I'm fine. I am just going through the motions of getting all my ducks in a row. I am nervous and anxious! I could send myself into a tizzy if I over-analyze all of the things I can't do after the surgery.... but, I'm not going to think about all of that! In trying to mentally prepare myself I have to remind myself to not over analyze! I have been considering surgery off and on for a few years now. I met a woman this summer who was banded 9 yrs ago! She is a healthy weight and i would have never known if she hadn't told me. WOW! I thought to myself, "What are you doing? Get going girl!" So, a few months later here I am. Best of luck to all the December Babies!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
