Outrageous Octobers

Hi October family - Yahoo... I'm on the other side... Well the first 2 days I felt more pain than I do today - Yesturday I walked & shopped for a few hours, and then did some house errands... I was pooped by the time bedtime came... BUT... I did find these great things - my mom previously had a stomach surgery for cancer and they gave her these belly bands... put that puppy on, and instantly felt better. Just that little amount of constant pressure made it feel great. Today, I've done house hold things - made a couple blankets, doing great...

Went into the hospital @ 253 and today I'm 248... Thats 7lbs down from surgery - That is AWESOME....

Love you guys! Hope your all doing great.

anyone have any good recipies for the liquid stage? I'd love to hear them.

Woo Hoo....Congrats on getting banded!!!

From your profile story it sounds like you have been on quite a journey already but THIS ONE will be truly LIFE CHANGING!!! I was just banded on Oct 4th and know this has been the best thing I could have ever done for myself!!!

I feel lighter and happier every day. It's so great to share this adventure with others who have felt the way I have.

Yay for you... down 7 lbs and on your way :)

Hi everyone - Well tomorrow will be one week since surgery and all in all I am feeling pretty good. Still very sore near the port but all else feels ok. My Dr. did 2 days clear liquid prior to surgery, 2 days full liquid after surgery and then mushies for the next 4 weeks. It is really hard to find some different things to eat. So far cream of wheat (the higher Protein one), tuna, light cream Soups, cottage cheese, apple sauce. I am afraid a little to branch out of my comfort zone but I am getting bored. R Gran 1 you are an inspiration. You sound like you are doing great!! Keep it up. I have never been happier to be a week older. I find that when I am walking the pain is much less severe then when I sit or lay for a while and then get up. Well - every day I hope to be stronger. Not weighing myself until 1st followup at Dr. 4 weeks out. Kind of surprised that my dr. waits 4 weeks for followup but I guess he knows if you do not feel right you will come in earlier. Keep up the good work everybody!! So excited for all of us. I feel like I was reborn!!:blushing::smile2::smile2::smile2:

Good luck Lori. We are all GonnaBeFit! Leah and Alijacmom you are on my mind today. I'm willing you both to walk. Ahealthylife and Tannie Good luck to you both too. Trust me you all are going to be fine. Ten days after surgury for me. Tomorrow is my first pre-op visit. I'm on soft food, no pains and very little soreness. If a over weight granny whos kids are older then most of you can do it you can.

Aw thanks R gran for remembering. I havent been very active on this forum...

Well, my surgery all went smoothly. Tomorrow, Im 1 week post surgery. Day 2 I was walking around, and managed a couple of hours shopping. Day 3 I flew home. Im feeling pretty good today (Day 6 post op). I just feel a bit of discomfort when Im moving around (getting up, or walking).

Hi Alijacmom

I start mushies in 4 days, so exciting. My doctor also refers to it as the puree stage. For dinner I intend to just puree up whatever I cook for my partner. Scrambled eggs and mashed potato are 2 things I know I'll be eating. I also puree'ed up some lasagne, that's in the freezer waiting for me.

Had my 2 week post-op Dr. appt today and it went pretty well! I am 25lbs down from my highest weight and 22 lbs down since beginning pre-op diet! I am feeling great!

I am worried, though, since I am not scheduled to get my first fill for another 5 weeks! It was supposed to be at 6 weeks post-op, but they are not scheduling fills Thanksgiving week. Dr. says I can eat whatever my stomach will handle as long as I remember to eat slowly and chew, chew, chew, chew!

Hope everyone else is doing well!

Don't worry. The reason we all signed up for this was because we could not do it alone. We are learning and the Drs and their staff are teaching us. If we never had fall backs we wouldn't be where we are today. This is a year or two process plus a life long change. Lets sit back enjoy the ride and learn.

Hi everyone. Doing a little better today and am very glad that everyone in our group sounds really good! I seem to still get the gas pains at night in my left shoulder and when that comes in it is rough. I am still sore around the port incision but other than that I really feel I am coming back to myself. I have no appetite at all. Do all of you feel the same? I cannot believe it since I had quite an appetite before. I am on the mushy stage and have been managing pretty well. I have to say I read a recipe on here and it has been a great dinner for me. Part skim ricotta cheese, very, very shredded mozzarella mixed in the ricotta and 2 tablespoons of spaghetti sauce. Microwave for 1-2 minutes and it is delicious. Tastes like lasagna without the noodles and it is very creamy and mushy. Thought I would pass that on to all of you. I am now 8 days since surgery and curious if anyone else is still getting that awful gas pain and port pain. Still thrilled to death that I am a week older...

two more days til surgery anyone else on the 29th of October? 8 days into my liquid diet and I am not even hungry. I think I know why they want you to do this, so that you are commited to making a life change. I have already made so many huge changes and the best is yet to come. What a great tool we all have to get us going. People may think this is the easy way, but I KNOW this is just something that will help ME do the hard part. So excited, scared, nervous. It has taken so long to get here.......

How did your surgery go? I was banded on Oct. 5 and it is the best thing I have ever done for myself! My first fill is scheduled for Nov. 18. Right after surgery the band seems tight because of the swelling but after awhile that goes away and you can eat more. I'm at that stage now and am trying to keep the portion sizes small. Looking forward to the fill so I can continue to lose. I've lost 31 lbs so far and love how much better I feel. People are starting to notice and that's cool too. :wink2:

Hi Everyone - I thought I would start a new thread for Monday weigh ins. This keeps us responsible over the weekend (which are my tough days) and we can all see our progressive weight loss.

Feel free to include strugles or accomplishments or new ideas that we've found over the week/weekend, and we can talk these out and give encouragement.

Hope you'll join me..

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
