August Rush in bandland!

Recommended Posts

So I am 2 days post-op...I was banded on monday 8-9-10. I am doing fine except for the gas being really annoying and almost more painful than the surgery itself.

Weighed myself this morning, and I have met my first weight loss goal. :)

I have the main big one, but I have 4 smaller ones. I was so excited when I hopped on the scales this morning, and the big number started with a 2.

I am one week out today and feeling okay. Just gassy, still. And I second the need for something salty- all this artificial sweetner is not my cup of tea. But I'm not really hungry yet....I'm sure that will come soon enough...

You know what? I'm actually liking these liquified Soups. I've got Butternut Squash, Vegetable, Cream of Potato and Cheddar Brocolli. They really are yummy and better than just broth.< /p>

Tomorrow I am officially on this side of August Rush! Here I come....

I made it through. I'm banded!! Had a really long day. Had some bad gas pains around my rib cage but walking has helped. I still have a foggy brain from the drugs. Otherwise, I'm doing well. No pain other than gas. I'll write more later.

Jen how are you doing?

Hi Everyone,

I was banded on Monday and am doing well, no real gas pains or headaches, just a little sore. I'm grateful since I have to go back to work tomorrow. I'm not really hungry but I am worried I'm not getting enought Protein in this stage (clear liquids), I can't wait to add Soups to the menu juice and ice pops.

Glad to have you all to share this with!

Hi everyone!

I'm joining August Rush  I was banded on Monday. So far, feeling a lot better but still incredibly sore around my belly button. chicken broth was absolutely amazing for about a day and already I'm bored. Looking to move onto better Soups.

Gas is still killing me ... gas x strips (after 2 boxes in 2 days -- bad i know) is not helping any longer. can we take tums?

Another Question: anyone do any sugar free frozen yogurt or sorbet? Is chocolate flavor off limits?

Nice to join the August-ers!!

Khloe, my doc's office specifically reccomended liquid Mylanta with gas releif in it. They said it gives better releif than Gas X. Wish they would have mentined that before I already went out and bought the Gas X.

I was given Mylicon (sp) it's a liquid medication that is used mostly in infants. That did help me along with the gas-x strips. Honestly, it took me over 6 days to start to feel better from the gas. Last night 7 days post-op I slept in my bed for the 1st time.

That is how I felt about chicken broth, I started gagging a few days in. My doctor is following a strict diet - Clear liquids for 7 days after, then 7 days of full-liquids, then to pureed. I see him tomorrow so I'm hoping I can move on soon.

Best of luck!

Thanks! I'm definitely going to pick up a different gas relief medicine. I can't wait for sugar free sorbet and some chocolate Protein Drinks. I'm on Clear Liquids for 14 days!!! Then onto full liquids for another 15 days before moving to solids. I cant believe I won't be eating a solid anything until September 9th -- so sad. haha! I'm definitely going to have salmon ... my dad made this stuffed salmon last night that had me craving!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
