Breath test??? im confused

Recommended Posts

This is an email that was sent to me from the surgeons office:

Melissa,

We will not do any of the pre op studies (EKG, CXR or labs) until we have a surgery authorization. We will draw nutritional labs and do a breath test for h pylori at this appt though. I will explain everything when you are here. If Myrna has all of your information we will get our part together and send in after your visit Thursday. It usually takes a couple of days to get dictations, the packet made up and we will send in within a week.

Then once we get authorization you will get a surgery date then return to do your pre op testing within a 30 day period prior to surgery. See you Thursday

I was unaware they had a breath test for it, but H Pylori is the bacteria that causes ulcers. So I can understand them wanting to test you for it before being banded.

Hope everything comes out ok! Good luck!

Hi. I did not do a Breath/Ulcer test. My EKG and Labs were done 12 days prior to my surgery date which meant my insurance approval had already come through.

Melissa,

I did have to have the breath test. All you do is breath into a little bag and then they have you drink this little mixture of liquid that tastes like really strong lemonade, and then 5 minutes later you breath into another bag. Then they use the bags and run some sort of test and they let me know in about 5 minutes mine was negative! I think if its positive you just get antibiotics. Anyway it was really simple and by far the easiest preop test I did! I'm having surgery next wednesday. Good luck with your preop stuff!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
