Hi my name is Tracey and I got my band on 12th July 2010. I was in hospital for 2 nights, having quite a lot of wind and shoulder pain. Now on day 3 and home but have a lot of heartburn pain, and shoulder pain. Not sure what is causing this. Well I hope it doesn't last too long. Looking forward to having a new body in the future.:)

Congrats on your new life, for the gas pain get a heating pad that seems to work rather well and it will last through day 3 -5. Heartburn make sure you have some anti acid medicine call your doc first to be sure!

Good Luck

I am one week post op and I had extreme bloating/gas that I could not get rid of. My doc said it was from them blowing your stomach up with gas during the procedure and to walk..walk...walk! It helps get it out of your system. I also started taking gas-x and it has really helped me out alot! I had my surgery July 8, 2010...stayed overnight in hospital due to insurance requirements...but, had no complications. Day 2 and 3 was the worst for me as far as pain then it has subsided each day. Now, I am mainly just sore at my port site incision and naval incision. I sometimes have a sharp pain near my port site but doc said that was normal because my port is stitched to the muscle there. I stayed on Clear Liquids through day 5 fairly easy with no hunger. But, I became very light headed and my heart was fluttering on day 6 and I ate a few bites of mushy food with no bad side effects. (not supposed to do that until 4th week post op...but, I can't help it! It has made me feel better and I haven't overdone it...I have been extremely careful!) So, far I have had no vomiting or sliming...so...I guess I'm ok. I have my first post op visit 7/23/2010. According to my scale at home I am down at least 20 lbs. but, I won't be sure of that until I weigh in on the docs scales. At the time of scheduling my surgery I weighed 316, surgery day 308, 1 week post op 285 (according to home scale). I have been rather moody/down...I think its because I am being too hard on myself and expecting too much too soon. Plus, I ate when I was happy, mad, sad, depressed, really for any reason..lol...now I can't! So, I feel rather lost all the time. I'm sure I am just adjusting to a new way of life with the band. Well, that's my story! Good luck with your journey!

Thanks for your messages. Have been taking heartburn medication and pain meds since I came out of hospital and this is day 4/5 for me. I dont know whether I am hungry or not as my stomach digestive juices are really loud and the shoulder pain still quite intense. Have been walking around and have passed so much wind, but is still keeps builiding up so have taken some De-gas and hope that works. Keep burping also so I must be doing something wrong. Slurping my clear fluids too fast is suppose.

Luckily, I only had to take pain meds on day 2 and 3. I am still having passing pain but, not enough to justify taking the meds. I burp alot as well. I think you just don't realize how much air you swallow until your stomach is so much smaller. I am definitely having to adjust to it and train myself not to take in so much air. Gas-X really helped me alot. I was swelling so bad I looked like the Michelin Man with a tire around my upper stomach! ..lol..It was awful! Thankfully that is resolving itself now as well. Well, thanks for responding and good luck! =)

Good luck and hope the pain goes away soon! Take the pain meds, walk and try the heating pad. Unfortunately, my shoulder pain lasted 13 1/2 days!!! I actually had to have doctor refill my pain meds! It was pretty intense. The gasx and heating pad helpd a bit but I was still in pain!! I know it's unusual for the pain to last that long but doc said it happens sometimes!! Don't get discouraged! I am 4 wks post op. Feeling much better although the burping is still happening!! i have lost 10 lbs since surgery!! I had lost another 10 post op!

Thanks for letting me know how long your shoulder pain lasted. Mine doesn't seem to be getting any better yet so will keep taking pain meds and keep the hot pack going. Day 5 feeling more mobile but still full of wind and bloated.

Hi all, I wanted to throw in my two cents on the shoulder pain. I have had it intensely! I was banded on 7/23/10. I have a friend who has ALS and he told me that the swelling from surgery is pressing around the diaphragm(sp?) that is near the stomach - there is a nerve from the diaphragm that goes to the left shoulder and as long as there is swelling there pressing on it, it will hurt. He had to have a procedure done on his diaphragm because of the ALS and his mayo Clinic docs explained this would happen to him. Makes sense and it made me feel better to have a legitimate explanation.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
