Antibiotics & Stomach Irritation

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I mostly lurk around the forums, but I need some advice because I'm really struggling tonight...

I was banded on March 1st and currently have 5.5ccs in a 10cc band. This weekend I came down with a pretty severe sinus & ear infection and my PCP put me on chewable antibiotics. She advised me to eat before I take the antibiotics to avoid stomach irritation. (I've also been taking acidophilus.) This morning I made a smoothie for Breakfast (low fat natural Peanut Butter, sugar free carnation instant Breakfast, skim milk, ice, a couple of strawberries) and I'm not sure if it wasn't enough to combat the antibiotic but I didn't feel well. At lunch I PB/slimed a turkey burger after a few (very small, well chewed) bites and when I tried to eat some scallops for dinner, I PB/slimed again. I waited a little while and made myself another smoothie because I figured I'd at least get something in my stomach so that I could take the antibiotic again but even that hurts to swallow at this point.

I have been doing so well... I know this is a learning process but I already am not feeling well and having these PB episodes just adds to my misery right now. (And I have to get something in my stomach so that I can take this stupid antibiotic!) Does anyone have any advice?

Hi there, was just wondering what you ended up doing to combat this? In the past I took 5 day z-packs but am nervous that now with my band it might make me sick! Any suggestions?

Well, I went to the doctor and they removed about .5ccs from my band and allowed my stomach to heal from the irritation. Eventually they put .3ccs back in and I hit my sweet spot. Looking back, I think that 5.5 was just too tight for me.

Basically, it was a big learning experience. The best advice that I can give is talk to your doctor if you're not feeling okay! There is no reason to suffer if you are really uncomfortable.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
