9 months out - port pain ?

Recommended Posts

I would like to hear from any of you who have port pain. Perhaps a better adjective would be port irritation. Every now and then I move a certain way and have a pang of pain. Sometimes it is just a deep breath. I assume this is normal, but want to rule out problems.

Also, I am curious to know if there are any bandsters that have met their goal who can say whether or not they still feel the port or think about it often. Anyone out there with similar concerns?

My port bothers me all the time. And it sticks out like a golf ball from my rt midriff. One of these days I will have it changed to a low profile port and have it moved.

Mine does too, but I'm only three weeks post-op. Looks like you're pretty far progressed. Has yours always bothered you? Did you complain about it to your surgeon? I'm just really uncomfortable all the time and can't imagine living with this object sticking out like it does under my skin.

Mine didn't show when I was still heavy, but now that I am in maintainance it gets in the way of exercise on the balance ball, some yoga positions, and generally aches with abdominal exercises. My surgeon just keeps telling me that when I am ready he will move it!!!! Unfortunately I develop a lot of scar tissue easily around the port.

Thanks for the info Mimilou. My surgeon just tells me that he's not worried about it. Almost like he doesn't want to address that we have a problem. I'm in a constant state of pain in that area and it throbs frequently. I can't even imagine how exercise would be with it. It's really very troubling.

I think port pain is pretty normal. I am still quite "voluptuous" so my port doesn't stick out at all, but I do experience pain from time to time. Sometimes it's just irritating, but other times it is pretty acute. I'm sure your surgeon's nonchalance has more to do with this being a common issue than actually lacking concern for you. I'm sorry I can't offer any useful information, but at least you know you're not the only one out there.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
