I was approved 4/26 and got the phone call today telling me my surgery in scheduled for 5/13. I go for pre-op at the hospital 5/3 and pre-op with the surgeon on 5/5. At that time they will give me the information for my pre-op diet. I was upset a few weeks ago because it seemed like the surgeons office was dragging their feet on submitting the paperwork. Now I am nervous that it is coming up so fast. You just can't please this girl.

Hey all,

Went for my pre-op testing yesterday after being on the liquid diet for almost a week, everything went well and even better then that when asked how I felt and I replied HUNGRY!!! I was told I can have one "Lean & Green" meal a day till surgery....Woo Hoo!!! What a pleasure it was to have solids again. So one more week of this diet and then surgery on May 6th, wish me luck:thumbup:

i dont understand why they want you to lose weight before the surgery..isnt that the purpose of getting the surgery? someone told me its because of the liver??? i have gained about 9lbs since i was at the surgeons office, (over year ago), i do have appt may 5 and surgery is tentative may 18. so:thumbup: i guess i will be told about this pre-op diet...its not a liquid diet is it? protein.? any add'l information would be great...thank you

The pre op diet is used to shrink your liver. plus why not get a jump start on the weight loss. your going to have to change your eating habbits..its time to start now! the band isnt going to stop you from eating bad food. if you dont do the work the band isnt going to work, its only a tool. pre op diets are different it just depends on your suregon. most seem to be 2 week liquid diet. anything like Protein Shakes or soup.... hope this helps jdonnajay!

They want u to loose excess weight so its easier for them to to do the surgery. Even if its a little bit of fat off, helps them to work better. Plus they wanna c how u are with dieting. I'm at the pt of not drinking medifast so much, just drinking a lot of fluids broth and eating a lean meal for dinner. Sucks but its worth it in the long run.

Since I was the queen of liquid diets in the past, this isn't too horrible. I hope I can get through the 2 weeks. I have my pre-op on Monday. For those of you who know about your liver, how do you know? I am curious.

Kaye1229,

I've been on the liquid diet since the 22nd, of April. Yesterday was my pre-op and my surgery is set for the 6th.

I don't find the Medifast all that bad...aside from the orange and banana flavors, try blending them with ice and skim it works for me.

My surgery is scheduled for May 5th, I started my pre-op on the 19th. Just because it was a monday. I was told to drink the sugar free Carnation Breakfast or Bariatriac advantage 5x's a day, every 3 hours. The carnation is with 8oz of milk (1% or skim) and the Bariatric Advantage uses Water. Sugar free Jello and Sugar free popcicles. Any beef, chicken or vegetable broth. I started dieting in Febuary and with the liquid diet, I am down 29 lbs. 7 more days til surgery and I am kind of pumped about the weight loss! My doctor told me also that he was proud of my weight loss and that I too could add a protein/veggie meal, 4oz max of chicken/beef and greens. I felt guilty for eating the 4oz today, but man did it fill me up! LMAO Couldnt believe that part either. But it did happen. So full now, that I may pass on my 5th shake!

Good morning Fellow Bandsters!!!

You guys Im stoked, nervous, extatic all at the same time...

I hv my surgery date 5/6/2010. I start my official PREOP diet on 5/1/2010. i started my own lil version of the PREOP on 4/26 just so that I could get my body used to all the shakes (and i started working out 3 times a week @ the gym).

I met with my surgeon on 4/28. He put my mind at ease about the surgery. It felt good to talk to him and get all my crazy questions answered.

My biggest fear is the next 2 weeks.

The one week PREOP diet and the first week of the recovery stage.

Ive been under before so im not TOO worried about that.

Im just so scared of failing.

I was reading on a thread that one person lost 27 lbs in 8 months POSTOP and then I read a thread about someone who lost 100lbs 5 months POSTOP!!<---I wanna be that person!!

:eek:Is anyone else scared of just down right failing?!?!?

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
